Playoff tickets on sale later this week

Although the Panthers won't know their playoff opponent until next weekend, they will start selling individual tickets for the game much sooner than that. The Panthers' home playoff game will be played Sat., Jan.10th at 8:15 p.m. against either Atlanta, Arizona or Minnesota.

Panthers' ticket guru Phil Youtsey told me in the locker room Sunday that the team had discussed several dates for individual ticket sales. Traditionally, Carolina sets aside 10 percent of the stadium (or about 7,000 tickets) to be sold individually, almost all of those tickets being in the upper deck. PSL holders will get roughly the other 90 percent of the stadium.

The only thing Youtsey could say for sure was that individual tickets WON'T go on sale Monday. More likely, it will be later in the week -- maybe Thursday (that's New Year's Day, so more people would be home and could try to get them). And you better be ready with a quick computer mouse or cell phone when it happens -- I would guess those 7,000 or so tickets will sell out in less than 30 minutes.

Who will Carolina's home playoff opponent be?

My guess is the Minnesota Vikings, who beat Carolina 20-10 earlier this season in Minneapolis. The Vikings clinched the No.3 seed today. So if Minnesota wins its playoff game, that will definitely be the Panthers' foe, as the No.1 seeded N.Y. Giants get the benefit of playing the lowest-seeded team left after the first playoff weekend (either No.4 Arizona or No.5 Atlanta).

Anna, the Eagles are going to have a hard time going up to Minny and winning with their run game (or lack thereof) against the Williams Wall. I don't see that happening. I think the Falcons, as well, COULD go to Arizona and win, but the Cards have been good at home and the Falcons have been average on the road. I wouldn't want to take on a team featuring Warner, Fitzgerald, and Boldin (who'll be back) at their place.

Guys, We can at least say now that Carolina's game Jan.10 or 11 will be against either Atlanta, Arizona or Minnesota. (It can't be Philadelphia, in other words).

If No.6 seed Philly wins at Minnesota, the Panthers will play the Atlanta-Arizona winner in Charlotte.

If No.3 seed Minnesota beats Philly, then the Vikings come to Charlotte.

Scott - Will we have to wait until after the wild card games to know what day we are playing? Seems like the Giants would get the Sunday 4PM slot no matter who their opponent is.

Eliza, I've read that the NFL tries to make sure teams have a week between games. As such, the winner of the Saturday game will play the next Saturday (be the opponent the Giants or Panthers), and the winner of the Sunday game will play the next Sunday.

I just read where Carolina will have the night game on the 10th?

Is that confirmed Mr. Scott?

Jennifer, the Sunday Night halftime show just announced us as the Saturday afternoon game (4:15.)

But I thought that the games on Saturday are usually later, which would make that game at 8:00 or something...am I right?

Where'd you see that, P? (This is all pretty relevant to me, since that's the night of my birthday party, which I foolishly scheduled without taking the playoffs into account.)

Pray for Minnesota...I wouldn't count AZ out. Warner plays best when he's under pressure... Warner in the air will beat us...Warner is the comeback kid! The New kid in ATL is Cinderella...He's shoe might fit...and the battle of I-85 is always tricky...don't ya think?

Really, Eagles can't win by the pass in a dome, with that inconsistent defense. LOL!! Trust me though I would rather we played against the Vikes. It would be a better match up.

Yes, playoff game is Sat., Jan.10 at 8:15 p.m. in Charlotte, for those who asked. Blog has been updated to reflect that. Thanks for all your comments!

Go Panthers!!!

Enjoy your New Year..!!

At least we won't get Dallas AGAIN. Whooping them in the playoffs was getting dull.

Natasha, why do you think Warner would beat us when he couldn't earlier in the season. They were playing far better then than they are now, and we were able to win that game despite big numbers out of Old Man Kurt.

I know it's not related to the entry, but I'd like to know what you think about the game of US vs Argentina... I think we are ready to give the next step and fight for a World Cup.
