Kasay's 2nd FG cuts Browns lead to 21-13 at halftime

John Kasay just hit his second FG of the second quarter -- a 42-yarder -- and Carolina is now down 21-13 to the Cleveland Browns.

The FG came mostly courtesy of the Panthers' first good defensive series -- a three-and-out -- and then a 32-yard punt return by Captain Munnerlyn in which he broke several tackles going straight up the middle.

The Panthers then got one first down when Steve Smith made one of those kinds of plays he always used to make -- breaking two tackles and going 18 yards. After that, though, Clausen made a bad throw on third-and-5 from the Cleveland 24 that went incomplete and Carolina had to go for the FG with 0:47 left in the first half.

Cleveland then thought about trying to throw its way downfield in the final minute, but Jake Delhomme had the ball batted out of his hand by Charles Johnson on the first play, and Cleveland averted a real mess when it recovered. After that, the Browns were content to go into halftime with a 21-13 lead.

If the offensive line wasn't so terrible, Clausen might actually have a chance to do more. Stupid penalties don't help things either.

THESE REFS ARE HORRIBLE! During the Panthers' challenge in the 3rd Q, the Head of the Review and Refs in the LA office came on TV and gave his input into why the Panthers' LaFell should have a complete pass on the sideline... Yet the Refs miscall it and screw the game up. Very similar to how the Refs took NC State out of the ACC title game yesterday with a BONEHEAD call to end the game...

Scott, did you watch the end of that State/maryland game yesterday? What did you think of that call? As i understand it, if the Refs "make" a call, there has to be evidence to overturn it... fine. But if they don't "make" a call, can't they just review a play and then make a call? Meaning yesterday, the spot of the ball, which cost the Pack the game...
