Buffalo wins 20-9; Panthers fall to 2-4

Jake Delhomme's third interception provided a fitting conclusion to the Panthers' 20-9 home loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Down 17-9, the Panthers actually had a chance. The defense had just forced a punt by Buffalo, and Carolina was going to get the ball back with plenty of time to score.

However, Kenny Moore (of Butler High and Wake Forest) fumbled the punt return away. Buffalo recovered and kicked another field goal to make it 20-9.

Carolina then got the ball back with less than 2 minutes left and 11 points down. Delhomme's third interception came on a desperation heave as he tried to hit tight end Gary Barnidge deep down the middle.

Carolina is now 2-4 on the season.

Please make the 5 things I didnt like about the Panther loss as follows..

1) Jake interception...touchdown...

2) Jake interception....touchdown...

3) Moore fumble....fieldgoal

4) hat they didnt bench Jake

and

5) What D can play with any heart, when they get thier a@@es handed to them by thier own QB....

I wont even end it with Jakes 3rd interception of the game, Im just like every other Carolina fan about now.....ready to barf!!!

Can Fox honestly say anymore that Delhomme give the Panthers the best chance to win? 13 INTERCEPTIONS IN SIX GAMES?!?! The Bills were unable to move the ball the whole game, only scoring when Jake handed it to them.

Disgusting.

It's really tragic, it's obvious what this team needs and our coaches won't get Jake off the field, we've solved the problem at DT now please just try to play Moore or even Feeley (still think they should have signed Garcia)

Its time to turn the attention to RICHARDSON

That's right. I see no bulging at all... and thats unacceptable

it was bad that Moore dropped that punt yes..but im not going to blame this all on him. This game should not have came down to that punt. Jake Delhomme sucked all game long..and has for a long time now. Yet people have been stuck up his a$$ for whatever reason. Its been stated before..Jake Delhomme has always been what he has been because of Steve Smith. Why is it so hard to bench this guy just to see what the others are completely made of? The defense was amazing. Buffalo played a horrible game yet won due to turnovers. So grats Delhomme...thanks for more Int's *thumbs up* you piece of sh*t

The comment I received upon asking a waiter to put the Carolina game on at a local pub..."Why would you do that to yourself?"

The INT's weren't just bad plays, they were awful throws. Feeley is no long term answer and nobody knows how Moore will play given the opportunity. But Carolina needs to do just that, give him an opportunity. I'm sure he can average two INT's a game, as such is the requirement at QB for the Panthers right now.

I've been patient long enough. I no longer care what Richardson, Fox or Delhomme does.

Go Steelers!

I dont know why jerry richardson wants to trade away so many draft picks away next year. John Fox is in desperation mode right now and he dont want the next head coach to have many draft pick to have better players next year. JR should have seen it comming, they traded all of their draft picks away yearly for the last 3 years..i feel sad for the head coach next year having only 3 or 4 late round picks

Fox never has a problem with the coaching in a post game interview. It's like listening to Shaggy - It wasn't me....Dan Snyder got crucified in the Wash Post last week by every sports writer they have. How does Richardson get away with this? Must be making a lot of jack even with the losses...a long way from the Rooney family, which is the best in the league. Good job to the D today. No new comment on Jake, our wonderful offensive coordinator and the rest of the coaching staff. Pitiful. A team MUST have a leader who instills confidence in the entire team. It's really showing now. 20 mil guaranteed has ruined a lot of players. Mr. Hurney, Mr. Fox...put us out of our misery. Leave.

Bench Jake, move 89 in motion and use him in the slot creating mis-matches with linebackers, sign T.O. next year to help him out b/c obviously USC WR sucks in the pros and moose is getting older..sign jeff garcia or make a trade for troy smith (ravens) did you see how much he improved in the pre-season?, brady quinn (he's young), kevin cobbs (reason for vick not starting and jeff garcia in free agency), or heck, even kyle orton..all smart players, dont put up the numbers but they dont create TOs....

If we get a decent coach and GM we wont need the draft picks. We have great players and another coach could do wonders with them. If you don't think so just wait til they leave and see how they excel. My heart goes out to you players. You are not being well served by this orginazation.

and everyone blaming Peppers for not wanting to stay a panthers???? he knows jake is the QB lol...89 will soon be next...wheres ricky prohel when we need him? guy is old but is far better than d. jarret and k. moore..

Anonymous said...

Is "Little Stevie" happy? He had 99 yards. We lost but his personal numbers were up. Is he happy? I sure hope so because the world revolves around his happiness.

0k, Jake has proved he has no business on the field, defence played their hearts out. Jake must go. Overthrow after overthrow, anybody but Jake. John Fox, MAN UP, dump Jake.

kevin said...

J. Garcia is still on the market, im sure he'll come in the game ready to start..heck where is VINNY TESTAVERDE? ...heck even i can play better than del-WHOME???...handing the ball off and 5 yard passes to TE. $20 million dollar for that? ...We people get pay according to our progress in our jobs..jake gets paid for not progressing and loosing...

Anonymous said...

It's always easiest to blame the QB but there is a lot more going on here.

The receivers just aren't doing as good a job getting open as they have in the past for Jake.

Jake isn't not able to find as many open receivers as he once did. It's that simple. The Offensive Coordinator needs to have a better strategy which includes better plays.

The 2 missed field goals and costly Moore fumble didn't help either.

Jennifer said...

I think Smitty said he wanted to be involved in a "Win"...not gonna happen when his QB has been playing for the other teams...

Seriously how many points is that this year off of interceptions??

Run Pep Run!!!!! I have a feeling some of your teammates are gonna wanna be catching the same bus out of town!

Anonymous said...

Never tried to establish the run. It's all about Steve Smith and making sure his ego calls him an asset. Get rid of Jake and Steve and bring in some "team" players.

Jennifer said...

Anon...add Kasay's 6 points, subtract the 3 off of Moores fumble...

Whats the score?

Anonymous said...

So i guess it's the recievers fault that when they get open the ball is overthrown and intercepted. Give me a break.

K said...

why did they deactivate hunter cantwell? im sure he's having a better season than jake del-whome? he hasnt even turn the ball over yet!!! bench jake Sign GARCIA and allen rossum for punt/kick of returns..munneryln and moore sucks, both are small guys wanting to truck over guys everytime they get the ball...I'm sure they think its like playing Madden 09 (oh wait, ''hit stick'') USC players are overrated...look at D. jarrett and reggie bush..matt lineart....carson palmer and troy pam are good, but plague by injuries, Steve smith is the deal

Anonymous said...

"The receivers just aren't doing as good a job getting open as they have in the past for Jake."

I respectfully disagree. Jake was tossing balls way over the heads of wide open receivers today.

There's just no excuse for Delhomme anymore.

Anonymous said...

That's still 15-17 Buffalo right Ms Jennifer?

Meoww Carolina Kitty cats. Panthers Suck and Jake is a interception machine. Go Carolina losers! Your burning hope for wining games amuses me. I hope the Panthers get crushed like the Titans when they play the Pats.

The Carolina Pathetics!

It's time to boycott the Panthers' sponsors... since they ignore the fans.

Jennifer said...

Im to pissed to even add it up myself, so I will take your word for it Anon....I just know it was and still is a sad LOSS!!

I beg to differ on the receivers not getting open for Jake...I understand like Peppers, Smitty has haters after having the balls to say I want to be involved....

No way in hell, can he or any Panther that played on "OUR" team today make the catches that were clearly OVERTHROWN on Jakes part this afternoon!...

Next week Brett Farve and the Minnesota Vikings go to Lambeau Field to play the Packers. Want to see it on TV? Good Luck, the Panthers play Arizona at the same time. Wouldn't you rather see Vikings vs. Packers? I sure would. Let the folks at WCCB Fox 18 know how you feel.

Anonymous said...

Just watched the post game interview on NFL.com. Jake kept saying he only had 2 turnovers and that he should be starting. Give me a break!

Anonymous said...

Defense in the secondary used to be 80% psychology and 20% physicality. You knew when you got in Ronnie Lott's territory, you would pay for catching a ball. OK, the rules have changed but football is a contact sport. Mike Minter, we miss you. Somebody needs to be feared. The D played well...played their hearts out. Decisions have been made to affect change in that area. The offense has not. Same people, same play caller and two great running backs who are going to get tired of this offense. Eugene is calling better plays on the radio.
I feel for the Panther players. ATL, BALT, HOU, even the Jets, can find young QBs. What's our problem? NO, SD, even old men in MN are rockin' it. Paying too much for seats to be happy with the front office. Dudes are incredibly ineffective. But I guess when you have 60K plus season ticket holders and all those bucks, you apparently don't care. Man, am I tired of this. Can't watch anymore, this season. The big dogs are coming to town shortly and we can can't beat the puppies.

even for a girl that was well said Jennifer.
I agree with the boycott, maybe when they realize they are losing money along with the fans, it will be a wake up call.

Anonymous said...

I hate to boycott but it beats staying on a roof til the organization changes it's approach. If it works for other NFL cities maybe we need to do it. Giving money sure hasn't been working.

It is BEYOND time... ... bench Jake ... tell Fox to make some major coaching changes/responsibilities ... and then Fox doesn't have to attend practices and surely not any games

***Sigh***

Jennifer, you wanted to know my thoughts after going to the game...well, here they are:

I have finally given up on Jake. I've known for a game or two or three that he is certainly not the long term answer for us, but I thought it probably was best to ride him out through the rest of the season (very rarely does a team put in a back up and turn out a Tom Brady type QB). But, clearly it is time. Call it lack of confidence...call it loss of vision. But, all you had to do was see the wide open passes missed (and the INTs of course) and any fool can tell that Jake is done.

I think the Buffalo fans said it best. These are actual quotes (mind you, from Buffalo fans):

"I can't believe you lost to Buffalo"

"Why is Jake still your QB...even we can see this guy can't help you win a game"

Overall, this team has a lot of talent. But you just can't put your defense in such bad positions so OFTEN and expect to win too many games. And you can't ask your offense to score and make plays when your QB has no realistic threat of throwing the ball downfield. If there was one thing we all noticed in the stands today it was that Jake never did much more than throw it to his checkdown/RBs. That will not get you very far against a good team, let alone the Bills.

Sad to say fans, but our best hope is for us to evaluate our other QB options at this point. Normally that is Taps playing for your season, but at this point, what else do we have?

I stand by my earlier sigh...

David I said...

This loss was never about Moore fumbling that punt. It NEVER should've come down to that. I'm not one of the Jake-haters, but it is past time to bench him. All 3 of those INTs were on him. Not the O-line, not the WRs. He overthrew every one of them. By a mile. It's time to put Matt Moore in. He certainly can't do any worse. And if Fox has no faith in him, he shouldn't even be on the squad.

Even with all of this, the loss is not solely on Jake. It also rests on Fox's shoulders. I don't know the exact play calling breakdown, but I do know we threw the ball way more than we ever should have. Deep in the third quarter, DeAngelo had more yds than the entire Bills offense. And we should have kept feeding that man.

I've been a fan of this team ever since I was standing in Founders Hall the night Jerry Richardson looked in to that Channel 9 camera and said, "Thank you, Thank you, Thank you" to the fans when it was announced we got this team. I have never been so disgusted with them. And yes this does include the 1-15 season. ARRRRGHHH!

Jennifer said...

I cant imagine being at that game Curtis..

One question?

What was the fans reaction to Jake during the game? Were they screaming for him to be benched or were they just shocked as in no not again?

Anonymous said...

I just looked at the schedule again. We may only win one more game at this rate. By the time we play Tampa Bay again, they may be fighting harder just so they can get their first win...
I've known for years that Steve smith is the sole reason why Jake Delhomme was still starting. Once teams starting putting double teams on him for the whole game, you now have a 13 interceptions quarterback. Besides, Jake is getting up there in age anyway. They should've kept the draft picks just because of that. Even if he were doing well.

David I said...

I wasn't at the game either, but I guarantee they were screaming to bench Jake. I know I was sitting on my couch! He gives us zero chance to win at this point. Thank goodness our D played as well as they did. Getting Chris Harris back has been huge!

David I said...

Anon 8:42 - Smitty has been double teamed for years. His lack of production has nothing to do with him being doubled. Granted Jake's not helping at all this season. But Smitty's drops haven't helped him either. But I have all the confidence in Smitty whereas I have none left for Jake.

Jennifer said...

Yeah I actually was to David...and I see it had just as much effect as it would have had if I been doing it right in Fox's ear for the last 2 quarters of the game...

David I said...

Jennifer- That's what frustrates me the most with Fox. He is so stubborn, that it kills this team. There is absolutely no legitimate reason why we should be 2-4 at this point other than Fox's management of this team. He refuses to bench Jake, which even my 3 yr old nephew knows needs to happen & his play calling sucks a@@!

If he wants to coach a running team, why in the world is he not doing so? DeAngelo is an absolute machine out there and he doesn't feed him the ball near enough. Even with Jake throwing to Buffalo all night, we still had a chance to win had we given the ball to DeAngelo more. We truly only needed to throw a lot on the very last drive.

Anonymous said...

I cannot believe we lost to the BILLS.

I do NOT hang this on Moore's muffed retrun cath. I hang it on Fox and JD.

1st, JD - Sorry man, you're passes are so far off base it's a wonder you wdon't have more INT's

2nd, FOX - As long as you continue to play the same ole thing, you're going to continue to get the same ole results.... 7 weeks into the season and look at the stats... this is pathetic.

Jennifer said...

youre preaching to the choir sweets!!

I really dont know anymore what its gonna take...As Mr. Scott said Fox is wedded to Jake and he doesnt see anything coming of having a marital affair with Moore or Feely :(

Seriously all jokes aside.....shakes head and learns that screaming at the tv, doesnt get me anything but a sore throat <:(

David I said...

IMHO, Feely is most certainly not the answer here. Moore should get the spot. Other than what I saw of Matt the yr Jake was out and we had David Car-toon as our QB for a bit, I don't know much about Matt. But he did look OK back then. Hopefully he's better now. All I do know is he most certainly can't be any worse than Jake has been thus far.

I know all too well about having a sore throat from screaming at your TV. Throat lozenges are my best friend right this moment. ;-)

Curtis Watkins said...

Jennifer, the fans reaction was pretty much across the board - time to replace him. I heard the standard useless talk about "we should have traded Peppers for a QB" (which wasn't a real possibility)...to the same sort of resigned reality I felt of, it's just time. I think that was most of what I heard, even from Buffalo fans was...Jake had his time, but at some point in all careers, it is just time to move on. And clearly, for Jake and the Panthers, it is just time to move on.

Honestly, for the real fans who have been around for a while, it was kind of a sad feeling I think. Because we all have some great memories of Jake. But, alas, it is no more....

Jennifer said...

And with that said Curtis I second your sigh and will hit up the throat lozenges like David said...

Have a great week fella's!!

Jake is a good QB. He makes big game plays a few times every game. Hes worth the money, keep him.

I'm sorry, sarcasm is hard to convey in print.... Hes terrible. Cut him, take the salary hit, bring in Garcia. God help john fox.
