The Panthers just dropped to 0-3 with a desultory 20-7 loss to Cincinnati on a damp afternoon in Bank of America Stadium.
Rookie quarterback Jimmy Clausen had a better second half after a horrid first half, but still couldn’t get the Panthers to their first win of the 2010 season. Carolina plays at defending Super Bowl champion New Orleans next Sunday.
In fact, Clausen’s results were remarkably similar to Matt Moore’s. Moore also led a single scoring drive as Carolina lost to Tampa Bay by an identical 20-7 score one week ago at home. All three of Carolina's losses this year have been by 13 points.
Clausen didn’t commit a turnover in the second half after a mistake-riddled first 30 minutes. The Panthers got a costly fumble from Jonathan Stewart in the fourth quarter, however, and Steve Smith was barely a part of the offense at all.
Clausen did ignite a couple of last fireworks with a 44-yard pass to Brandon LaFell just after the two-minute warning. Then came two straight personal fouls on the Bengals, and the Panthers had moved the ball to Cincinnati’s 14. But the Panthers sputtered out from there, as Clausen twice tried to hit LaFell in the end zone, but failed.

What a pathetic performance. The Bungals try and give us this game and we are too inept to take it.
I definitely think this team is completely lost and the coaching staff is lost with them.
Once again, Jarrett isn't even dressed; instead, we play two rookie WR's with a rookie QB.
Fire Fox tomorrow and take Jeff Davidson with him. There is obviously no preparation during the week. What a sorry excuse.
I think Clausen's problem is that he is used to a pro-style offense; there is no resemblance of anything in Carolina to anything that is pro.
COME ON PSL OWNERS - ALL together now on 3 -
Stand and cheer for the Panthers
Stand and cheer for the team
The pride of both Carolinas
And city of the queen
Carolina!
Stand and cheer for the Panthers
In our grand ol' name
Nothin' could be finer
Than to be in Carolina
For a Panther football game!
Hold on, someone moved a little early

President Obama announced Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson as head of his economic team. Specifically - Richardson will lead efforts to raise taxes across the board. Sources state Richardson was an obvious choice - given his ability convincing ticket holders to pay higher ticket and concessions prices, after cutting the team's roster to the bone. Fans seemed thrilled with the announcement, especially those sitting in a cool rain at Sunday's game, the Panther's third straight loss. The White House is also expected to name Jeff Davidson as economic coordinator to jump start economy and move recovery forward.
There is a chance for back to back wins with San Fran and St. Louis in October and another chance for a win at Cleveland. I do think Pittsburgh and Atlanta will have clinched and will be resting players the last two weeks of the season. Maybe...Arizona.
This is a solid 3 - 4 win team with the possibility of maybe getting to 5 if the cards fall just right!
Scott, I can't figure out why Carolina is splitting the carries evenly between Williams and Stewart. In the past they've ridden the hot hand, but during these first 3 games the Panthers have chosen to give Stewart carries when he hasn't looked good at all. They need to go back to Willimas as the feature back for most of the game and go to Stewart late in the game.
I figured this team for 6-7 wins at the beginning of the season. I think that number is going to have to be revised downward. At this rate, maybe 4 wins is optimistic.
All rise for the post-game hymn:
All hail to the visitors
Whom'ever they are this game
We turned the ball over and over again
Next week, we'll do the same
So hail to Coach John Fox
Who sticks to us like the Pox
The opponent our game plan mocks
And puts 11 men in the Box
No matter who's the quarterback
The O-line can't protect
The O.C. can't confuse anyone
and the receivers can't connect
A-men
Jimmy Clausen's first Game Looked Descent for a Rookie,Carolina Needs To Build a Offense Around Him,Fire Fox and Davidson and Get a Coaching Staff For This team Could also Use A few perks on Offense,Give The kid time Looks more Promising Than Matt Moore it's going to be a bad year carolina suck it up.
At least Clausen's only pick was where the receiver had a chance to catch it. A small but good improvement over past games.
Clausen is going to have serious problems if he doesn't learn to get rid of the ball faster, and I'm not talking about holding the ball - his delivery is SLLLOOOOOOWWWW. It looks like someone is turning a hand crank on his back to wind him up before he gets rid of it. The vast majority of his yards today were after the catch - you can't live on 3 yard dump passes forever. Most of his yards were also once the game was effectively over. He basically led one penalty aided drive right after halftime. So to summarize - accuracy = average to bad, can't handle snaps with consistency, delivery = very slow, threw the ball up for grabs several times even though there was a clear effort to NOT turn the ball over, even if it meant losing the game. Despite Rich Gannon kissing his butt all day and talking about how well he played, the result = fail. Doesn't mean he won't ever be any good, but he isn't right now. Everyone that jumped on Moore's success last year b/c it was in "meaningless" games needs to step up and acknowledge that Clausen's "success" today came with the game already decided. At least Moore has demonstrated that he CAN succeed at all when he isn't put situations with horrible protection or down two TDs. Not that I think Moore is great, but really - not fair that he has been made a scapegoat when his replacement performed just as bad and has never proven anything. If you are going to keep starting Clausen that's fine but just go ahead and admit you don't care about winning now and that you are trying to develop him.
a we got a 1st round pick this year and if we keep this up it will be a top 10, see im a true fan, im just happy we got a 1st round pick. this season will not go well i just hope jimmy confidence dont get damage because i think with a new coordinator he can blossom, and we need too franchise williams. but what do we need to pick up for the draft.
Plus, as we heard ad infinitum today, Clausen should be a master of Davidson's playbook since he played for the genius Charlie Weiss and at least 50 percent of the plays are the same. Hmmm. We all know the plays and play calling are high school-esque. If Davidson gets canned (crossed fingers) where does that leave Jimmy? If he's not good with a playbook he has been using for almost five years now, how's he going to do with learning a new system next year. I guess Fat Charlie will be the new OC or head coach next year...
this year is a development of Jimmy... be patient....
First pick in the draft is in the future for the Panthers. They will probably blow that too!
So what was the big deal with Clausen being picked? He isn't that impressive to me. We would be way better with Armanti Edwards in because he LEADS. I'm not wasting 3 hours every Sunday on this garbage anymore.
WHY ISN'T MARTY HURNEY AND DON GREGORY STEPPING UP AND TAKING SOME OF THE HEAT OFF OF JOHN FOX AND JEFF DAVIDSON? DOESN'T MARTY HURNEY HAVE FINAL SAY OVER THEIR COLLEGE DRAFT? DOESN'T MARTY HURNEY RELY ON HIS DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE SCOUTING, DON GREGORY, WHEN SELECTING COLLEGE PLAYERS IN THE DRAFT? ISN'T DON GREGORY THE ONE WHO'S REALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR DRAFTING DWAYNE JARRETT! WHY ISN'T HE (DON GREGORY) HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY OF THEIR RECENT BUSTS! GREGORY SEEMS TO SPEND MORE TIME GETTING FULL BODY MASSAGES AT JOSEPH AND FRIENDS IN THE UPTOWN THAN HE DOES WATCHING FILM.
MY BADDD! DON GREGORY SPENDS MOST OF HIS TIME AT Emerson Joseph NOT JOSEPH AND FRIENDS. I WAS THINKING OF SOMETHING ELSE. HE'S A VERY POPULAR CUSTOMER ACCORDING TO ONE OF MY CLOSEST FRIENDS.
THEY MAY AS WELL FIRE EVERY PLAYER AND COACH & THE OWNER SHOULD GIVE THE TEAM TO THE RED CROSS AS A DONATION. aLL THE FANS CAN GO BACK TO ROOTING FOR THE FALCONS OR CHANGE TO THE TITANS NOW. THEY ARE 2 GAMES DOWN FROM ALL THE OTHER 3 TEAMS IN THEIR DIVISION AND ALL IS LOST.
We've never had years of waiting and the growing pains of an expansion franchise. We've had immediate success and I believe our fanbase has been spoiled as a result. The truth is, if any franchise got so good, so quickly, you'd expect the same thing to happen. That being said, this is the most drastic change this franchise has gone through and like any team, they are going to struggle. That immediate resolution that us Panthers fans are used to may not happen and this change, coupled with outside forces like the economic climate has exacerbated everything. This team is setting themselves to be consistently good. No more up and down. But we'll have to get through this growing pain of a season. Be patient, Panther nation. Yes, this season will be long. This team is young. And whether or not you support the Front Office or coaching staff, support the players.
This test is greater than the 1-15 season. Lets see if we can make it through. Go Panthers.
That might be the most idiotic post ever. You actually mention that we had no growing pains and 1-15 in the same post. What??? We got to good too fast?? One good year followed by years of below average to average to complete embarrasment. Then one more good year, then alternating years of pretty good and average. That's growing as a franchise. Now, expectations are higher. Not to win every year, but to at least show some pattern of development. Just because you are starting a young QB doesn't mean you are developing him. You benched a guy after two games after he had a lot of success last year. So you either are throwing in the towel on the season after two games to "develop" Clausen, or you feel he gives you the best chance to win. Well - if its the first then you should be fired on the spot, b/c you just spent first round tender money on a guy you had no intention of giving a real shot, with real play calls, real protection, and real WRs. Then you yank him after he makes some bad (ok horrible) throws trying to force balls into the end zone after you constantly put him in 3 and a gozillion yards by running right up the middle on first and second down (from the most predictable formations ever). Not to mention he is getting drilled b/c the line can't protect him. Hell - two plays before he got yanked Smitty dropped a 17 yard pass that Moore put right on the numbers. Now you start the rookie - guess what? He plays just as bad if not worse. If you can honestly watch Clausen right now and think he gives you a better shot to win RIGHT NOW than Moore, you are a fool. We've seen Moore produce with this offense against real NFL teams - I haven't seen that from Clausen. Give Moore protection and don't put him in third and impossible all day and he can produce. Can't say the same for Clausen at this point. Maybe down the road, but despite the lovefest he has some SERIOUS flaws. The announcers were going nuts over the guy when he completed THREE straight passes, none over nine yards. Just tells you how bad he was in the first half. If everyone is ready to throw the towel in on the season to "develop" a QB after 2 games, then so be it. I just don't get what he has done to deserve the chance to F#ck Up that Moore hasn't. Other than play for Fox and Davidson's buddy Weiss.

Jeff Davidson needs to be fired, NOW!
I WOULD RATHER WATCH THE UFL OVER THE PANTHERS THIS SEASON. I WISH THEY COULD LOCK THESE CURRENT PANTHERS PLAYERS OUT THE REST OF THE YEAR. THATS HOW BAD THEY ARE. THEY ARE JUST TERRIBLE. THEY ARE GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE CLAUSEN IF HE KEEPS GETTING THE CRAP KNOCKED OUT OF HIM.
HEY RICHARDSON,
WHY DID YOU FIRE YOUR TWO SONS LAST SEASON? WHY HAVEN'T FIRED THE GM/EX-SPORTS WRITER AND THE REST OF THE SLAPS HE BROUGHT IN WITH HIM.
YOU MAY HAVE MORE MONEY THAN I DO BUT AT LEAST I CAN LOOK AT MY SELF IN THE MIRROR AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT MYSELF! MONEY CAN'T BUY MY HAPPINESS.
the panthers are the worst offensive team in the nfl. if you thought they looked bad today just wait til next week when they play a team that can score some points. the SUPER BOWL SAINTS are coming to charlotte and they aren't taking any prisoners with them back to new orleans. they will kill us next week.

Jerry Richardson donate the team to the Red Cross? Did you really make such an outragous statement? You think Jerry richardson would make a donation to anyone? Let alone the Red Cross. If Richardson ever had any interest in the Red Cross it would be taking it over so he could could charge the sick and dying for blood!!
0-16. Just absolutely pathetic performance today.
