30-10 LSU over UNC at halftime

What was briefly a close game has now turned into another embarrassment for the UNC football team, which trails LSU 30-10 at halftime in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic in Atlanta.

LSU had a 23-point second quarter -- all of it coming after UNC took a 10-7 lead. The Tigers had three plays that covered at least half the field -- a 50-yard TD run, a 51-yard TD pass and an 87-yard TD punt return. Throw in a safety when a UNC center snap went through the end zone, and there's your 23 points.

The Tar Heels really have no chance of coming all the way back -- their offense is too erratic to score regularly, and their defense (minus six starters who are ineligible for various reasons) isn't about to stop LSU for the entire second half, either.

I will say this for the game, though -- it's entertaining. That second quarter -- which also featured a 75-yard UNC pass from T.J. Yates to Jheranie Boyd -- had more big plays than the entire Panthers preseason.

I love how if anyone says ANYTHING negative about UNC, then they're automatically, a "hater", an ABCer, or a State fan.

It isn't just "Moo U" that dislikes UNC, their attitudem and fans.

With that said...UNC showed a ton of heart, especially TJ Yates. LSU certainly took their foot off the accelerator and prematurely took out some starters, but UNC played a heck of a game and Butch had the team ready to play. UNC had a chance, and in the end that is all you can ask for.

Scott Fowler continues to show why the Observer is losing its luster. If only they would hire some sports writers with talent and a knowledge of sports!
Carolina did themselves proud tonight. You can hate on Carolina, and you ABC'ers can talk trash about the scandal and suspensions, but you have to admit that the kids in the clear played their hearts out tonight and never gave up. I don't believe there has ever been a team to suspend 13 players (7 defensive starters) two days before a big game and the first of the season. Carolina had a rough first half, but came within 6 yards of winning this game. Our guys did the University, the fans, and college football proud tonight and Butch and the coaching staff deserve credit for making sure the guys were in the game the whole night.
The rest of the ACC should be nervous. Even with the losses Carolina had for this game, they played LSU to the wire. With two more weeks of practice until our next game, Ga Tech should be a little worried.
GO HEELS!!!

One heckuva finish. Proud of the way the Heels hung in there. We were as good or better than them 80% of the time. Special teams basically cost the game. Plus 2 or 3 potential TD passes were dropped.

Hey Scott, can you report on how many points LSU scored in the second half of the game tonight? Can you also ask LSU if they agree with you that UNC had no chance of coming back in the game tonight? At least then we could get an opinion out of someone who might know something about this game. Thanks.
