Panthers officially sign Feeley

As expected, the Panthers officially signed A.J. Feeley and placed Josh McCown on injured reserve Tuesday.

Feeley, 32, was available because the Philadelphia Eagles signed Michael Vick -- Feeley was the guy who got fired due to that move.

He's not a bad quarterback, but has rarely been a very good one, either. Feeley's career stats: 27 TDs, 29 interceptions, QB rating a shade under 70. (By comparison: Jake Delhomme has 115 career TDs, 80 career interceptions and a career QB rating of 84.2).

Feeley should practice Wednesday and will be feverishly learning the playbook, but the Panthers will start Delhomme Sunday at Atlanta. McCown had the hard luck of getting injured at just the wrong time -- his knee and foot injuries could have kept him out for up to six weeks.

It could have been shorter than that, too, but the Panthers aren't in a mood to sit still after that 38-10 whipping they took in the season opener to Philly.

Delhomme will be the subject of my column in Wednesday's Charlotte Observer and online.

Any word on how Philly was able to get Garcia before the Panthers?

Well Julius, I believe that both Philly and Carolina both went after Feeley and we won, so the Eagles got "stuck" with Garcia. But that's besides the point. If it's not gonna be Jake, why put a bandaid on the problem. Why not just look ahead and try out the young QB's. At least you can't get to upset at the mistakes they make. They wouldn't know any better! Oh that's right, because Fox has a man crush on Delhomme. I wonder if they sit around in the candle light and eat buckets of Bojangles?

Feeley was the first choice for both the Panthers and the Eagles. Feeley chose the Panthers because the Eagles only wanted him as short-term insurance (due to McNabb's injury). So the Eagles ended up going with Garcia.

...but Moore has the backup spot, right? I mean, there's no way on earth that Feeley gets to cut in front of Matt on the depth chart the same way that Josh did, right? Moore HAS to be the backup quarterback.

John Fox is fired look what scrap he found on the street http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_e73yNAQGk

Newsinz: According to everything I've read, Feeley is going to be No. 2 and Moore will remain at the bottom of the depth chart. Feeley essentially slips right into McCown's slot.

Everybody is bashing Jake. Rightfully so, he stunk it up. Why hasn't anyone mentioned that the fat boys on the O line couldn't do anything right. Is it the O line coach, the Offensive coordinator, or just the fact that the fat boys are overrated with no heart. You could put one of the Mannings in our backfield and see the same type of stats.

That is offensive... Bojangles chicken is served in boxes not buckets!

Word of advice. If a scalper approaches you about a Panthers ticket the going price is 100.00 for you to take one. Keep that to yourself.

The depth chart has Moore 2nd Feeley 3rd right now.

How Jake the fake isn't 3rd is beyond me!!!

I hope he suite for the game this weekend so Atlanta can chew him up and spit him much like they will do to whichever QB Carolina marches onto the field. John Abraham is going to have a field day. 0-2 Panthers, HERE IT COMES!

Where is the common sense to try out Moore? Why do teams have backups? Wouldn't this be the time for Moore to gain experience? Hello!!!!

I agree with the above poster, Atlanta is going to THRASH the panthers this weekend at the Ga Dome. I think you'll get to see Feeley in action before too long as ATl is going to go through Delhomme and Moore like a fat kid through a pack of skittles. Way to go pick up a guy who fits RIGHT IN with the Panther QB squad owning more pics than TDs in his career. I think Carolina should give him an extension for $20M up front right off the bat. Falcons will OWN Carolina this Sunday. WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Don't worry guys! The NBA season is right around the corner and we'll have the Bobcats to cheer for!

remember mcnabb getting benched last year for a few games after having a terrible stretch? they need to sit jake's a** down for a few and let him think about it. McNabb came out firing(and not to the other team) after his benching!

The Panthers are looking for a quick fix. It ain't gonna happen. Their desperation is showing. Look for another disgusting blowout in Atlanta.

Put Moore in for `starter....We will win with Moore...and the Team will back him...

Feeley chose the Panthers over the Eagles because unlike you morons he knows that Michael Vick is a dynamic weapon at quaterback. By the way so does Andy Reid. He knows that he has a much better chance to play behind Jake and Matt Moore compared to being behind Donovan when he returns and Vick. Hell he might even play for Carolina this week. If I were Peppers and Steve Smith I'd demand a trade before this disaster really takes effect.

Please Read ESPN: John Fox will be fired for not getting a quarterback during the off season:

It’s tough to say a coach who was 12-4 last season is on the hot seat, but Fox is truly there. Patience is wearing thin in Charlotte and the Panthers never have had back-to-back winning seasons.

Fox had a built-in excuse two years ago when Delhomme went out with an elbow injury. He often reminded us of the fact the Panthers were playing without their quarterback and he got a free pass. There’s no excuse this year. Fox could have gone out and done something at quarterback after Delhomme fell apart in last season’s playoffs. He didn’t.

Let the Jake experiment run its course through week 3. If there isn't marked improvement after that game, go with Matt Moore as the starter. People say Jon Fox gave Jake 20 million, Hurney and Richardson signed off on that as well, everyone is accountible. A.J. is a huge mistake. Gus Ferotte would have been a much better addition, Hell Brett Bazenez would have been better. But as Fox likes to say, "we are what we are" With our running game it's not too far fetched that we could do all right with Moore as QB. Our big mistake was giving up our #1 for a second round pick. San Fran has to be licking their chops right now. I say after this season we use our high second round pick on Tim Tebow. The kid is going to be special, mark my words. He's a leader and a winner.
