Tim Richmond celebrates in Victory Lane after one of his wins in the Winston Cup series. Richmond was briefly one of the best drivers in NASCAR, winning seven times in the 1986 season alone.I wrote
my column today about Tim Richmond in advance of an excellent ESPN documentary on his life that airs starting tonight at 8. Richmond was one of those guys I wish I had seen race live, but he was before my time. This documentary gives an unvarnished portrayal of Richmond, who was a playboy, an outsider and a natural. He died of AIDS in 1989, at age 34.

Yikes. Does the liberal sports media believe more homosexuals with AIDS are needed in NASCAR?
Know your facts anonymous...He wasnt GAY. He was a playboy with tons of women.
richmond was a well known gay
Did you know him?
LOL!
I saw Tim at N. Wilkesboro. He could drive a race car like nobody else other than maybe Dale Sr. Incredible talent and a huge loss, regardless of how it happened. Just think if he was alive today, he would be an icon helping to create much needed support for a now struggling sport. Danica? Jimmy? Dale Jr? Give me a break, no comparison.
Richmond was def a bigtime f**. His team refused to get near the drivers seat when he got out for fear of catching something. Same for Kahne today.
The sad thing about the internet and the people sitting at home writing these hateful comments, is that these same people live a shallow, worthless life themselves. And they feel, that they have to degrade someone that has died, just to get a few laughs.. RIP Tim Richmond...
Not to sound preachy but liberals in their hideous ignorance need to understand the only real truth on earth (bible) clearly & unequivocably states when that when wickedness perishes righteousness rejoices. Perverted promiscuous sinful atheistic lifestyles are marked as wickedness so dont say you werent warned. Unfortunately in the end libs can run but they cant hide from their ultimate final eternal destiny in the pits of hell fire.
Factoid.
He sure was a great driver, he accomplished a lot back in those days.
Just watched the doc on Tim Richmond for the first time, and while he didn't come across as flamboyantly gay, I wouldn't say he seemed absolutely straight either. Yes, he and others paid great attention to his playboy lifestyle, almost too much so. Like someone purposefuly over-compensating to try to prove a point.
Just one man's opinion.
