Panthers start rolling out new logo (new jerseys ready April 15)

An example of the Panthers' new Nike merchandise.

In the past 24 hours, the Panthers' website has started to offer Nike apparel featuring new T-shirts that include Carolina's new logo and the Nike swoosh -- see the above for one example. Most are $25 to $32.

Nike has taken over jersey manufacturing from Reebok this year for all of the NFL, which at one point led to a lot of speculation that the Panthers would radically change their jersey. After all, they are changing their logo (a story this blog broke with the following post, which remains the No.1 all-time post on "Scott Says" in terms of hits by a very wide margin. Why? I'm not sure. A lot more people are interested in logos than I thought).

The new Nike jerseys featuring the new Panthers logo are available for pre-order on April 15th on the Panthers' website, but don't hold your breath trying to get one anytime soon. The Panthers' website also notes that they won't actually be shipped until April 26th (the first day of the 2012 NFL draft), nor does it give a price for the new jerseys.

Panther New Era hats are also available for pre-order now at NFLshop.com -- here are a few examples. The site warns, however, that if you order a hat today it may not leave the warehouse for three weeks.

Now the Panther jerseys are not undergoing any significant changes -- in fact team owner Jerry Richardson personally told one Panther fan in February that the uniforms won't be changing in his lifetime (although the helmets will be slightly altered this year to accommodate the new logo).

So don't despair if you've got the old stuff -- it will fit in just fine. I bought one of my kids a Cam Newton//Reebok jersey for Christmas last year, and believe me, he will be wearing that one for awhile since it was $85. For those who can't wait to buy the latest and greatest, however, it's worth checking out the Panthers' website.

It's something to do, anyway, as we wait for the draft that is now just over three weeks away. It also won't be long until the 2012 NFL schedule is announced and we see, among other things, when John Fox and Peyton Manning will be visiting Charlotte for the Broncos at Panthers game.

I've been kind of up in the air over the new logo, but it looks SWEET on that black t-shirt. I'll be buying one of those.

I love the tweaks to the new logo, but I thinks it's a major failure on Richardson and the organization not to make any uniform changes. Our uniforms are due for a modernization. Plus, with the Cam era, it is a perfect time to usher in a new uniform and era.....just like the Falcons did with Vick. Richardson is too old fashion and blahh. Listen to the fans, Jerry!

^You mean listen to you.

you honestly think our uniforms look good? The all white is horrible and looks weak. But yeah, if it takes listening to me to get some modernization, then go with it. We're not Green Bay or Chicago, so altering our jerseys just a tad isn't going to screw up tradition since we really don't have any.

The new logo is growing on me as I see it rolled out on actual merchandise. I was not completely sold on it during its initial introduction. As for uniform updates, I do think there was some room to make improvements now that we have an updated logo. At the very least I would have changed the helmets to black.

"altering our jerseys just a tad isn't going to screw up tradition since we really don't have any" - I think one way to establish tradition is to NOT change our jerseys. For that matter, that's why I don't really love the new logo. To use your examples, GB and Chicago haven't altered their jerseys/logos significantly, and so, their brand is established and seen as classic. The new logo is fine (I like that it maintained the overall same shape as the old logo), modernization is cool, but only for a while - maybe like 5 years. I feel like the Falcons and Seahawks fans loved their modernized uniforms/logos for a while, but now wish they stuck with their classic brand. I think it'd be a shame to deviate too far from what we started with.

This shirt is only available for YOUTH purchases...it's just gray and white for adults (currently)...

This post is a BIG FAIL!

I broke the story first on my Facebook page, but it doesn't reach as many people as The Observer. LOL. Anyway, it's definitely an epic fail if the Panthers don't make dramatic changes to jerseys or at least have Nike make an alternate Pro Combat jersey like the college teams.

I think changing the helmet to black or white (anything except silver) and the addition of black pants to either wear with the white blue or black jerseys would make a big difference. The white Pants need to be retired.

I can assure you that no one wants Atlanta to go back to their old logo or jerseys. Now Seattle is a different story. Their new colors and uniforms were horrible. They just needed a subtle uniform and logo enhancement the first go-round. They went too far. That's why I say a slight tweak to our uniforms with the new logo would be perfect. Get rid of the thick blue collar trim and alter the stripes on the sleeves. I actually like the design of our pants, just add black to those and we're set. However, at the end of the day, I just want them to win damn games!

The very first versions of the uniforms had black pants and Panthers blue jerseys. But they never hit the field in them. It's time for Jerry to go back to the original plan.

Silver helmet is fine... black would be OK but not better than silver. White helmet would be HORRIBLE... every white helmet in the league is horrible.

Losing the white pants would be OK, though. Black or even usung the existing silver pants would be OK, but the current all white with the blue trim looks more like pajamas than a football uniform.

30 bucks for a t-shirt? THIRTY???

TEAL SUCKS!!! What is this, the 90s?

What I don't understand is the fact that if Reebok's contract is now up, how could the old uniforms not change? Reebok legally has no right to provide uniforms for the team anymore. Wouldn't they have to use new Nike uniforms?

Anon. 12:38 hits it on the head. The logo isn't bad looking but NOTHING is worth $32 for a T-shirt. I'll wait until this post season and grab a dozen for $7.00 each. (Then again, I'm still wearing either a #48, #51 or #17 jersey to games.)

Panthers will be 7-9 this year.

Umm, tradition has been broken already when they tweaked the logo. Get rid of the all-whites and the logos on the shirt sleeves and waistline.

Ed's comment above is correct. The original Panthers uniforms were to be Black jerseys and Black pants but the league said no. Carolina would have been the first to feature that scheme. Since then other teams have been granted permission to use black and black.

A redo of the unform was rejected by not only the Panthers but 8 other teams. Mr Richardson personally stoped Nike from major changes after they brought many designs to meetings here. Phil57 you are also wrong on original colors......

I always thought that the panthers needed the
black helmet, black tights with the blue strip that
curve off at the knee, all black jersey with the blue and name to really set it off. I totally think that would be awsome. I mean really it's time now than never. Teal is okay, but royal blue is better. Also a gray jersey would be nice too.

I don't consider Panthers home in Charlotte. Reason: NFL Logo on the midfield. It should be Panthers logo. When I attend the ball games, they are more of visitors' edge. About the uniform look, I am not sure. I would love to see more black on helmet and gray jersey instead of wearing "infirmary" uniform at home games.

I guess I'm still on this island by myself about the uniforms - or does anyone else think the silver pants need to disappear, and yesterday? Those things are awful with the blue jerseys and only barely acceptable with the black ones. Why do we wear silver pants with the blue or black jerseys? Since when did the Raiders become an acceptable role model?

are you serious missed out on luck? im happy we got Cam instead. and the new logo sucks. a black on black kit with some of that blue in it would be sick. im definitely a fan of that. especially with nike designing them you know they will be awesome. but the new logo has got to go. the old one was a thousand times better

Actually no I'm not wrong, the original designs had a scheme with black jerseys and black pants. It was rejected by the NFL. Not sure where you were "anonymous", but I was here and am 100% correct.

I love new logo. If you go on Nike.com you can see better pictures of the jerseys. There were some subtle changes around the neck and sleeves. The material has really changed which gives the uni kind of a new look. Personally, I have never been a fan of the black jerseys. And I love the all white look- all of our big playoff games have featured this uni. I see the argument for black pants though- not a fan of the silver (helmets and stripe around the jersey sleeve). My fav jersey by far is the blue one- blue jersey, blue pants with blue stripe, blue socks, and those great looking Nike shoes and gloves. That ios going to look awesome!

As long as we have "90's-era Miami night club blue" as one of our official colors, our uniforms are going to look kind of lame.

The black uniforms are infinitely better than the other options, though.

Aren't Panthers typically all black anyways? Black everything with silver and blue trim...And before some punk looks up panthers on Wikipedia to tell us all that panthers actually come in a variety of colors, shut up. Shiny silver, blue, and white cats don't exist.
