A bo-o-o-o-ring BCS title game thanks to Alabama's ferocious D

Congrats to Alabama for winning one of the most boring title games in the history of college football Monday night, 21-0 over LSU.

It's not Alabama's fault. The Crimson Tide fielded what might be the best defense in college football history and dared LSU to do anything.

The Tigers couldn't. It's their fault. They were horrible offensively, getting only five first downs and only crossing midfield once (and that was in the fourth quarter). They had 92 total yards. When announcer Brent Musburger proclaimed at one point that the Crimson Tide D was treating the 50-yard line as if it were the goal line -- well, that was it exactly.

Watching it, I felt like I was at one of those high school football mismatches you occasionally see when some 4A power plays a 1A team just to get an easy early-season win.

Now I know Alabama's D is fantastic, and the Panthers would be well-served to consider a couple of the Tide defensive players with that Top-10 draft pick they hold in April.

But c'mon, LSU. The Crimson Tide was at least allowing 8.8 points per game coming into the game. You couldn't even score once?

By the time Alabama had kicked its fifth field goal, I went to bed. That 15-0 lead might as well have been 150-0. It was an anti-climactic end to the bowl season -- but also a well-deserved coronation of an Alabama team that I can't imagine ever lost to LSU in the first place during the regular season.

Yup, absolute stinker of a game. I'm one of few that actually enjoyed the 9-6 defensive drama in the first game- because it was true hardcore defense from both teams. Last night, Bama was good, but LSU's offensive was just plain offensive. Too bad that game didn't have the entertainment of the bowl games before it (UGA-MSU, Stanford-OSU, and Oregon-WISC). Those were great games.

Granted it was not nearly as entertaining as the Orange Bowl but at least it was better than the regular season matchup! Speaking of Orange Bowl, how in the world can a team still be ranked after getting blown out by the # 23rd ranked team?!

Scott, please don't give Musburger any credit for saying anything worthwhile during that game (or others he commentates). He made the game even more of a shore to watch with his fascination with the word "Honeybadger" and his relentless babbling. Wish they'd find someone else to pair with Herbstreit - he's decent enough.

Found a way to make it interesting... drinking game- drink every first down, penalty turnover, loss of yards, punt, for each score drink that many number of seconds, and for a touchdown shotgun. Also drink every alstate and at&t commercial. Made for a rough morning.

I saw where the BCS Committee is going to meet to consider changes. I hope they go to a plus one format (4 team playoff). That would not be perfect but it would be a step in the right direction. Bowl attendance was down 5% this year so hopefully that got their attention.

JMO, but it just doesn't seem right that a team that got to bypass the gauntlet of an SEC Championship Game gets to play for and win the National Championship, over a team that did. Didn't SEC teams always complain about Ohio State in the Big 10 and USC in PAC-10 before they got a title game (like a real conference), and never had to risk one more big-time shot at losing to a quality opponent, which ALWAYS knocks teams out of BSC title contention? Maybe Bama was the best team this year, but they only got a shot because of some stupid silly computer crap.

If they don't go to a playoff system of some kind, they should just scrap the BCS and go back to the old system. The BCS hasn't worked and it never will. But they won't, because hundreds of millions are at stake for these greedy semipro "college" programs.

I'm sure if the Tar Holes were in such a football game that it wouldn't be 'boring'. Luckily, the Holes in any BCS game is something that will never take place. Keep enjoying those mediocre bowl games that aren't boring Scott.

Reminds me of:

"Following a Tampa Bay Buccaneers loss in their early seasons, John McKay was asked what he thought of his team's "execution." He replied, "I'm all for it.""
