Jadeveon Clowney came into ESPNU's studios in Charlotte this afternoon, where I'm camped out for the day. Clowney -- the No.1 overall prospect in America and a defensive end from Rock Hill South Pointe -- did an interview with ESPNU and then with me later in which he said he had narrowed his choices to Clemson, South Carolina and Alabama.
That means North Carolina is out. Clowney said it was "too late" for the Tar Heels to get back into his recruitment, although he doesn't plan to announce his decision until his 18th birthday on Feb.14th.
Clowney said his visit to Clemson went very well last weekend, which is why the Tigers made the final three. Most people think he will end up at USC or Alabama, but he says he still doesn't know. In the meantime, he says he might take a visit to Florida State this weekend (the Seminoles have the No.1 recruiting class of 2011 according to ESPNU rankings).
Clowney is on the cover of ESPN The Magazine and his cell phone bill has reached $400-$500 per month because of all the recruiting-based calls. "My mom is pretty upset about that," he said, smiling. "But she paid it."

Now that Auburn is officially out of the running for Clowney (not that I expected us to get him anyway), I'm now openly pleading for him to Clemson. At least that way we won't have to deal with him every year...
How is he down to USC, Clemson, Alabama if he's considering visiting Florida State?

I'm a Gamecock who would love to see Clowney in Garnet and Black. With or without him though, the Gamecocks, Tigers and Tide have all had fine recuriting seasons. Congrats to all. Best of luck to all kids who signed or will sign letters - whatever school colors you choose.
This being said, if a teams future could be determined by the number of 'stars' on their recuriting rosters, Texas would have been in a class by themselves for a decade. It's not about what these kids did in HS, it's about what they do at the next level. It's not an exact science. They are just kids, and until they 'do' it, we won't know what's really in a class.
I'm hoping Mr Clowney will join the SEC, preferably as a Gamecock. He'll develop into a better player there because he'll face better competition. However, in the ACC - he'll run up even bigger numbers because the competition won't be as formidable week in, week out. DQ Bowers was unstopable in the ACC, but USC single blocked him and kept him far from Stephen Garcia. CJ Spiller posted great numbers at Clemson, would have at Florida too, but less so. He would also have had at least 1 national championship ring.

400-500 dollars a month? Its called unlimited minutes, nobody said he was the brightest kid, amazing talent though.......
He never ruled out FSU. He only ruled out UNC on NSD. He has yet to visit FSU and he has said FSU has been in it all along. I think the Noles get him after he visits. They got everyone else it seems.
@ whoever said the ACC is weak and dont develop players, excuse me but who is Daquan Bowers, i think he is a top prospect right now, and who do the Gamecocks put in the pros..u got your nerves.The ACC put out top of the line pro players from every school..look it up

Word is they spent a mill and daddy later got mad thinking he could have gotten 3 times that.
Daddy Cecil played DB for the Cowboys and the older son plays OL for the Jags so a mill is a drop in the bucket.
Imagine how much the dummy team who picks him will have to spend? 50 mill? 100 mill? Some players high opinions of themselves. Delusions of grandeur.
How come they don't mention what he wants to study at school?
Its prob not PE. They made PE the hardest major on campus with advanced Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy, Kinesiology, Physiology, Statistics, Trig, Pedeogogy, etc etc.
come on kid ....stay in your state...
there are good schools at usc or clemson....
ACC is not one of the top conferences but look at the NFL talent the ACC puts in the league. Every year the ACC puts the most players in the NFL draft or is number 2 or 3. This year the ACC had the most pro bowl players coming from one conference
