Carolina Panthers by the numbers after Week 7

Some interesting stats as the Panthers (2-5) head into Sunday's 1 p.m. home game against Minnesota (1-6):

7 -- Cam Newton is the first NFL player to have at least seven rushing TDs and seven passing TDs in the first seven games of his career.

8-for-8 -- This got lost in the shuffle Sunday, but Newton went a perfect 8-for-8 for 152 yards and a touchdown in the second half against Washington. He led the Panthers on three TD drives and had a perfect QB rating of 158.3 during the second half.

11.5 -- Minnesota defensive end Jared Allen's sack total this season, which easily leads the NFL.

14 -- Panther defensive end Charles Johnson has 14 sacks over his past 14 games.

41 -- The number of plays the Panthers' offense has had of 20 or more yards this season (35 passes, six runs). Carolina leads the NFL in these "explosive" plays (Oakland is second, with 37). The Panthers had only 44 such plays all of last season, which ranked them tied for last in the NFL in that category.

51 -- According to the Minnesota Vikings, this will be the first time in the team's 51-year history that the Vikings have played a team and both squads have started a rookie at quarterback. Minnesota will start its own first-round draft pick, Christian Ponder, on Sunday.

80 -- You know all the fuss about Cam Newton setting a new Panther record for a rushing touchdown by a quarterback with his 16-yard TD Sunday? He's got a long way to go for the stadium record in the same category. If you remember Kordell "Slash" Stewart, he sprinted 80 yards for a TD against Carolina in the December 1996 game best remembered for Chad Cota's game-saving interception.

712 -- Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson's rushing yards so far this season, which ranks No.1 in the NFL.

818 -- Steve Smith's receiving yards this season through seven games, which leads the NFL. New England's Wes Welker, second with 785 yards, has played in one fewer game than Smith. The two receivers have traded the top spot back and forth much of the season.

Cam Newton sucks. . .all the air out of defenders' lungs as he runs circles around them!

Sure all of the air out of their lungs in the first quarter. I always expect a lot of Newton hating trolls to voice their opinions on these posts, but its gotten sad.

Especially when he is actually playing better than anybody thought he would.

Cam is a punk!

How good is Cam Newton? Aaron Rodgers is the only QB in the NFL I would take over Newton for the rest of their career. Two years from now I expect the order will reverse.

Yeah, Cam punked the Washington Redskins this past Sunday! Go Panthers!

Kordell Stewart's 80 yd td run is an all-time NFL record for a qb.

Not a fan of either says:

Clearly the swindling criminal players rigged union with its thug lawyers making certain their poster child allowed to run pass and score and was upset at the previous week Falcons run away game Ryan was punished as warning.
Skins gave that one to the rook per union orders.

Rigged outcomes & stats. The union poster boy will be protected until he moves on in 2012 to Chicago to unite with Peppers.
That should give idiot furball fans something to cheer about. Sports entertainment wrasslin style.

Why do people come to these forums and just troll with nothing specifically critical to say? Don't you have better things to do? And who's this dude saying that the "union" decides who wins? Come on dude, get real. For all the haters: http://s3.amazonaws.com/kym-assets/photos/images/original/000/131/351/eb6.jpg?1307463786

How many haters still hate Peppers for leaving? That one lasted 2 years 24/7.

How many haters still hate Delhomne? That went on 2 years or more nonstop.

How many haters hated Fox for years? Same for JR until he shelled out 500 million and signed the union poster child?

What about the hate of Hurney?

The pure hate of Clausen took the cake. Never has anyone been so hated by these haters.

Yet noone can rag on their union protected beloved overhyped drop out cheat lying scam artist biggest ever who is now equal to Walter Payton?

FUMF

I have a number for you "28". It's the number we need to be concentrating on and be able to hold in check this Sunday if we have any chance of winning. AP can single handedly beat a team with his legs.

Why all the hate? Cam's #'s do not lie! If you do not like him, then do not watch the da## game!

Smith lead the league in yards, receptions and touchdowns with Jake Delhomme in 2005. Why can't you appreciate both QBs for what they are and what they've done for this franchise. If you're going to give a QB a hard time try Clausen or Matt Moore.

Viks Peterson will destroy the Panthers unless the union mafia thugz give him a call to fake injury after halftime or something bad will happen to their Qb. i.e. MR, JD, DB, BG etc. The list is long.

Union mafia hitmen thugz always get what they demand or else. The WWE NFL sports e'tainment rig is on for their posterboy CN the rest of the seas now since he'll be moving on in 2012.

All 32 owners were also forced to pay xtra billions in the union strike & made JR handle it since he had a heart transplant 2 yrs ago & on nitro glis tabs & cant get upset or he'll drop dead.

I hope everyone realizes that Scott just used all the same facts that were given on the broadcast of the game. Way to be original.

Delhomme also actually WON some games, something Newton seems a LONG way from doing on a regular basis.

Newton was initially a member of the Florida Gators before transferring to Blinn College, where his team won a national junior college football championship. I really like to analyze the football !
