Cam Newton's advice to kids and other notes

A few notes as the Panthers draw closer to their 1 p.m. game with Minnesota:
1) Joe Person and I offer a video preview of the Minnesota game here, which includes an interview clip of Cam Newton saying the Panthers could be “undefeated” right now if not for his turnovers.

2) If you haven’t checked out my blog item right before this one, you owe it to yourself to at least read the comments. There are close to 200 of them now, and they are well-reasoned and sometimes very funny responses to the controversial theory of a passionate Washington Redskins fan who lives in Charlotte about why no Panther fan 23 years old or older should be trusted. It’s a great debate. Thanks to everyone who contributed such thoughtful responses – I read every one of them -- and thanks, too, for keeping those responses clean.

3) Cam Newton, who started playing football at around seven years old, was asked Wednesday what advice he had for kids who wanted to follow in his footsteps. I thought he gave a good response to the question, and here’s an excerpt:

Have fun,” Newton said. “I think during my whole journey to where I’m at right now, I’ve seen so many people get burned out. And that’s a large part due to parents, a large part due to pressure…. “Have dreams. Set goals. Stick to it.

“It’s like if you go to Wal-Mart and you [want to] make a playhouse, you’re not just going to do it blindly. You need a manual. So you have to look at something and set dreams, and that’s going to be your blueprint to success. And have fun doing it. The day you’re not having fun that’s the day you should just stop doing what you do.

"I can honestly say I love coming and waking up in morning and playing football…. Special thanks to my kindergarten teacher that said on career day that you want to wake up and do something you enjoy doing.”

There they go again. Why didnt he tell kids:

Hello kids my name is sCam and I am a BUM !! I suck. I am a rogue. I am no good. Sure I can play a little football but I am a very bad person and have no remorse and never come clean about anything.

KIDS DO NOT be like me, a cheater, a liar, a scam artist, a thief, a felon, a disgrace kicked out of school, kicked off the team, a pimp pay for play making 200,000, and conned and played the system to go pro with a rag media help?

Instead study and work hard in school pass your grades on your own play by the rules and be fair. Dont play the system.

@ 2:38 p.m. Hater!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's why Cam will be in the Hall of Fame one day and you'll still be somewhere complaining about liberals, the media, etc. Please worry about something substantive. football is football. it's just entertainment. Cam is not a doctor or lawyer. he snaps a ball, throws/run a ball, and make millions doing it. Crap, I'm in the wrong profession. I have to sit at this computer and read financial statements. I'm not mad at him. More power to him. Has he stolen anything yet? No. You must don't know anything about getting a hookup?

From Jack C. in Charlotte

Hello Kids. I'm the poster at 2:38who is Anonymous because I am a coward. I am jealous and cannot stand when another person is doing good things and getting props for it. I am also very judgmental and hold things against people from the past and refuse to forgive them- even if I really don't really know them at all. Please don't be a hateful, retarded jackwagon like me.

It's funny---his advice to kids didnt include DONT STEAL, DONT CHEAT, AND LIE OR GET ARRESTED. lololo yeah a real class act

Agree with the other poster. Since Obama's new military policy has made it easier for homosexuals to enter without being harrassed and DADT dropped there is a great need for boots on the ground in distant places such as Afghanistan or Iraq and other places where America is engaged to fighting Jihad terrorism of this evil fanatical Islamic pagan religion.

The need is greatest in the Army. Fight for your country. America is worth dying for.

To bad that jerk that is hiding behind his computer spewing out his filth directed toward a great young man like Cam,didn't have someone to councel him at an early age.
It could have prevented him from becoming the obvious narrow minded jerk that he just proved himself to be.

Only a classless person with a sick mind would attempt to talk trash about a fine upstanding person like the Carolina Panthers franchise starting QB Cam Newton.
My advice to this lowlife, who has obvious issues,is to get a life and shape up his own act before they try pointing fingers at others.
