Panthers lose 31-10 to Atlanta

Carolina dropped to 1-12 Sunday with a 31-10 loss to Atlanta Sunday at Bank of America Stadium in what was easily the most poorly-attended home game of the year in Charlotte.

I'd estimate the actual turnstile count Sunday was around 25,000, which left almost 50,000 empty seats on a day where the weather forecast was bad, it drizzled early and was cold the whole time.

Atlanta jumped to a quick 14-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game and the Falcons (11-2) were never seriously threatened after that. By the end of the game, there might have been 1,000 people left.

Michael Turner scored three touchdowns for Atlanta. Matt Ryan threw for 227 yards for the Falcons and controlled the game most of the time he was on the field.

On the positive side: The Panthers are still in line for the No.1 draft pick in the 2011 draft.

The Panthers were able to rush the ball very successfully Sunday -- for more than 200 yards all told -- but as usual couldn't throw it to save their lives. Jimmy Clausen barely managed to throw for over 100 yards, getting just enough on the last play of the game.

Two other 2-10 teams lost today, meaning we are one game ahead of only one team now (cincy) for the #1 draft pick. We did a great job of losing today. Keep it up!

That again was one sorry excuse of a game for a QB. I actually would rather the Panthers get a good free agent QB than a rookie that has only played 2 years college ball. I said, even before season started, that Clausen was not even NFL material and again today he didn't prove me wrong. lol, Even Jimmie Johnson on Fox thinks he is pathetic

Brandon,
PLUS we lost to cincy so we are actually two games ahead of them also. :) Looking good #1 pick here we come!

I say if Fox starts winning games we fire him at this point. We just need to make sure he does not screw up our draft pick next year.

looks like luck will soon be coming our way and we can cut the clownsen

Three more games until Andrew Luck and a new Panther regime.

I had the best nap of the week today. Looks like most of our (un)talented players did too. Ridiculous.

Someone else needs a heart transplant besides Richardson. That was ridiculous.

This is a team that has no heart and is not willing to try to push the ball down the field. What do you have to lose? Jimmy Clausen looks like he's trying NOT to throw and interception more than trying to complete a pass. Did anyone else see that Gesture by Fox to Richardson when Armani Edwards came in to throw a swing pass? It was as if to say, "You happy? This is what we gave up a second round pick for!" There is no imagination, no interest in trying to improve. I would rather see Butler High School take the field. Show us something different because it feels like you are thumbing your noses at the fans Mr. Richardson, Mr. Hurney and Mr. Fox.

If you guys are blaming this loss on Clausen, you didn't see the game. Tom Brady could not have performed better at QB for the Panthers today. We are pathetic in ALL areas - the least of which is QB. Let's see you unload the ball to a covered receiver in less than 2 seconds. Our lines are getting manhandled on both sides of the ball. Play calling is absolutely hilarious. Coaching is pathetic. . . you name the area - we stink.

Anonymous wasn't the only one who slept well through most of the game. I woke up during half time, checked out the DIY channel, then came back to the game in time to catch a few more zzzzz's.

I don't mind people knowing who I am.

I see the Minnesota Vikings owner refunded the ticket holders for the cost of their tickets for this weeks game since it will have to be played in Detroit, due to the collapse of the Metrodome roof. How bout it Mr. Richardson... our collapse has been even worse. Maybe, refunding PSL owners one game would go along way (much further than your pathetic letter of "sorrow" over your decision to start a bunch of losers) to making up for this travesty of a season.

How many games do the Panthers have left to play? Would their season look any worse if they just didn't show up and let the other teams win by default? Plus, think of all the travel expenses they could save.

Why does Steve Smith celebrate on a 1-11 team after making a 4 yard reception when the team is losing? Totally and utterly ridiculous.

Take away all of the Falcons fans at the game and there would have been less than 5K at BOA.

"looks like luck will soon be coming our way and we can cut the clownsen".

A year from now I will hear how Matt Barkely will soon be coming our way and we can cut Luck.

Might as well draft QB's for the nexy 5 years, since the fanbase like to "give up" on players. Who was set to fail from the start with lame duck coaches.

"I said, even before season started, that Clausen was not even NFL material and again today he didn't prove me wrong".

I guess we have a magician in the chat room. Tell me how would Mr. Luck had fare will the current situation? Oh I know he would have beem great lmao.

Reference Luck. Im the one that said Clausen wasn't NFL material and I also think it's a mistake if Luck comes out for draft at end of his Sophmore year. He would lack the maturity and one more year of college would greatly uincreasehis worth, also, with the pending lock out, he at least could get another year education instead of being unemployed

2 things

1)Passion and fire is a good thing
2)It was originally thrown 6 yards behind the line so in terms and ran for 10 after burning the corner
