Tiger returns to golf -- and so will viewers

Tiger Woods announced Tuesday that he will return to competitive golf at The Masters in April 8-11.

Want a little side dish of hyperbole to go along with that bit of news? Sean McManus, the president of CBS Sports and News, told Sports Illustrated's Richard Deitsch in this story that Woods' return would be "the biggest media event other than the Obama inauguration in the past 10 or 15 years."

McManus (whose CBS network holds the TV rights to The Masters) said that even before Tuesday's announcement. He based his claim on the fact that Tiger's 13-minute apology for his sex scandal generated enormous interest and live coverage by multiple outlets.

I say there's no way this is No.2. That's way too high. Second to Obama's inauguration?! C'mon, Sean.

If you stick simply to the sports side of things, I'd say about half the Super Bowls over the past 10 years, the 2008 Olympics' opening ceremonies in Beijing and several other things I haven't thought of all will eclipse Woods' return to golf at Augusta, Ga., after his embarrassing exile.

Nevertheless, this will elevate The Masters, which doesn't really need the boost, but will certainly take it.

Will Woods win? His game has always been uniquely suited for that course, where he burst on the scene with a 12-stroke victory in 1997. But I'd say no, not this time. I think Tiger will be in contention long enough, though, for CBS to squeeze every bit of ratings juice it can out of Woods' return, and I'm going to pencil him in for a Top-10 finish.

Yes, now again we can watch Tiger spit, scratch his a--, curse and strut up the fairways with his enforcer at his side. Be careful, Stevie has said that he will not permit anyone to disturb or heckle his man Woods. At least without Woods in the tournament, we have been able to watch other golfers hit shots. Now, it will be nothing but Woods.

And who really cares!?! Just the advertisers; but this time Sir Tiger appears as a something of a self-made novelty rather than a legendary success-story. Whether or not he can still play golf remains to be seen; but as a human being, he's history. Bottom-line: he's may have and/or regain followers of his golf game, but never again will the public be tricked into believing that he's worthy of their admiration or respect.

Such a typical comment. Any criticism being labeled hatred. That's the best you can do in Tiger's defense?

Fans of golf never stopped watching. Who stopped watching were the people who along with Tiger are big fans of the Lakers, Yankees, Patriots, Lebron James, current popular US Olympic athletes, and Southern Cal. They used to like Duke's basketball team, the Atlanta Braves and the University of Miami football, but not anymore.

Woods showed he was a class act when after hiding for mos finally owned up and didnt try to blame his ex-model Swedish wife beauty for her highly abusive behavior after seeing his raunchy text messages from his sluts and porn stars.

The PGA needs more class acts like him.

Tiger is still a class act, and We're not going to let this ONE mistake, keep us away from cheering for you. You didn't commit a crime, you cheated......but we all know the real reason why ONLY WHITES don't want you to return to Golfing...LOL You've been squeeky clean and spanking their a$$$ all this time, they needed SOME kind of dirt to talk about you. Wait'n on Tiger to win this thing, so we can laugh at you clowns.....LOL

We're cheering for "Tiger The Golfer", not Tiger the "Married Man"...LOL If whites were soooo serious about MORALS, then that White Golfer said Tiger should go back to serving Collard Greens when he first came on the seen, shouldn't have been allowed to Golf again. He showed what type of Morals he had...but I'm sure, like Martha Stewart who had slaves working for her....whites have brushed all that under the rug....LOL

One mistake is one woman. This was more like 13 mistakes. Also, this post brings up a point. Do you know how to recognize somebody who doesn't play golf? They say 'golfing'. Golf isn't a verb. You don't go basketballing or baseballing or tennising.
Tiger isn't a class act. He is a great golfer, but with the way he behaves on the golf course, there is nothing classy about him. I don't care what color you are, Woody Austin is even less of a class act than Tiger.

I can't imagine anyone blaming Woods' wife's behavior after she found out about his affairs. That kind of thinking lead Woods to think that he was entitled to do anything he wanted. He probably was right. The media is fully back to idolizing him and waiting to praise everything that he does. Oh, I forgot, Woods is inflicted with a terrible disease and needs therapy. Poor boy, you have to feel sorry for him.
