Vick is back; who wants him?

Just a few minutes ago, the NFL announced that it had reinstated quarterback Michael Vick on a conditional basis.

Vick will not be eligible to play until the final two preseason games for whichever team signs him, and after that he can't play until Week 6 in the regular season.

So obviously, Vick will be a backup wherever he goes in 2009. He's an unrestricted free agent now -- the Falcons have renounced their claim on him -- and can sign anywhere he wants.

There are many questions about Vick, but here, I believe, are the two biggest:

1) Can he stay out of trouble?
2) Can he still play at anywhere near the same level?

Vick is only 29, but his promising career was derailed by his involvement with (and subsequent jail time for) an illegal dogfighting enterprise.

Now, should the Panthers sign him?

No. Let's just consider Vick just as a football player for the moment. He doesn't fit what the Panthers like to do. John Fox doesn't care about his quarterback running much. He does care about accuracy -- always Vick's weakness as a thrower. Jake Delhomme is well-set here as the starter. Vick at best would be a backup and while certainly an interesting alternative to Josh McCown (No.2) and Matt Moore (No.3), it's not a good fit overall.

Carolina doesn't need the circus Vick will bring with him, and Vick needs a team that didn't win 12 games last year and is more willing to take a risk by bringing him aboard. That team should be warned, however: You just can't count on that athleticism that used to set Vick apart, and without that, he's an average NFL quarterback at best.

Still, I hope Vick resurrects himself in the NFL somewhere. He has served his time. He's got Tony Dungy on his side now as a mentor, and that's a good thing.

Vick deserves another chance. As Goodell wrote to Vick in a letter: "Needless to say, your margin for error is extremely limited. I urge you to take full advantage of the resources available to support you and to dedicate yourself to rebuilding your life and your career. If you do this, the NFL will support you."

Let's be fair. He has paid his debt to society. It's time to forgive and forget.

Goodell did the right thing in reinstating Vick.

Now . . . let the S.O.B. sit out there in podunk and rot.

Anonymous said...

I hope he flops miserably wherever he goes. This poor excuse of a human being doesn't deserve the privilege of playing in the NFL again.

Thankfully, the Panthers have no interest in him. However, I think it is because of his major character flaws, not because his lack of accuracy as a passer. After all they have Jake "Interception" Delhomme as a starter...who is more inaccurate than him??

Vick is ignorant and did a very stupid thing. He was trying to get his street cred and let his cronies bring him down. That being said, I don't think he is a trouble maker. He's not a PacMan jones. I think he could do wonders for the black community by saying how stupid he was and it about cost him everything.

Anonymous said...

Yes Vick has done his time and he has a "right" to earn a living. Playing a pro sport is a privilage and not a right. I feel NO convicted felon should be allowed to play a pro sport. This should be a new rule for the NFL, NBA, Baseball, etc. Get these thugs, that our young kids look up to, out of the news and newspapers....

Anonymous said...

I say let Dallas or Oakland take him. Jerry Jones and Al Davis care nothing about the integrity of the game.

Anonymous said...

If you've answered the question "no" because Fox / Panthers aren't a fit for Vick, then why even bother going on with all the "circus" talk? Unless that was your real premise? And if so, go ahead and say so.

Anonymous said...

I would love to see Vick in a Carolina Panthers uniform. I think he has the potential to return to the level he was playing in Atlanta. Besides, accuracy in Carolina doesn't exsist here if we have Jake as our QB. Just my opinion.

Anonymous said...

I hope no one sugns him. He deserves a second chance as much as he gave those dogs. Anyone who has enough cruelty and ignorance in them to fight dogs, alow them to be raped, tortured, starved and killed more than likely can't change. I think the only thing he is sorry for is getting caught.

Anonymous said...

Forgive? He paid his price? He had his shot, he did an awful thing, this isn't a small infraction like shoplifting. He gambled illegally and ended the lives of defenseless dogs. His life should be over as he knew it, he blew his chance and this sends the wrong message!

I think Vick has paid his debt to society and should be allowed to proceed with his life however he sees fit. I'd love to see the man turn his life around and reach the full potential he has as a quarterback and as a person. As for him joining the Panthers, I'd love it if we could avoid the media frenzy. Good luck to you Michael.

Anonymous said...

I would also love to see Michael Vick in a Carolina uniform. Goodell did the right thing. He has paid his debt to society. What about the thousands of people molesting childrens and get a second chance.

cut jake and sign him now.

jake is best when he hands it off to our RB's, vick gives us another weapon.

he can sling it up in the air as good as jake...how many times has moose or smith had to make a great circus catch to save jakes poor throws?

jake stinks

Let the man play. He has served his debt to society, so if someone wants to hire him, he has the right to work. That said, as a dog lover, if I'm a linebacker, I have the right to take his head off on EVERY play.

Anonymous said...

Dan Robinson is absolutely right, Vick should have the right to pursue is career, without any reservations. If the NFL denies he this right he should sue...

Anonymous said...

..."should the Panthers sign him?"... C'mon, man..you're insulting our intelligence AND boring us to tears.
Good Lord, it's been a long offseason...

Anonymous said...

He paid his debt, but is he the role model that children should be looking up to? Far from it.

People deserve a second chance, sure, but if he makes it in, I'll be rooting for him to be sacked on every play he's out there.

Anonymous said...

He paid for his crime. He should be allowed to resume his career just like Jamal Lewis, Ray Lewis, Leonard Little, Adam Jones, Matt Jones and every other whom had off the field troubles. What everyone is saying is one, Vick can't become a productive member of society, two, that what Vick has done(I was a horrible crime)is worse than someone losing their live due to a fight, drunk driver; beating wives/girlfriend, doing cocaine, etc. As far as Scott saying Delhomme is better quarterback, PLEASE!!! Even with two years off, Vick is better than any quarterback on the Panthers roster.

Anonymous said...

I will never watch nor attend any NFL game that Vick is a part of. We owe that to those poor puppies.

Anonymous said...

If the NFL were to ban him, he'd have no grounds to sue on. NFL isn't a public organization. It can allow in who they want. If Vick were to sue, who's to say any random criminal wouldn't sue them, whether they have the ability or not to play.

Anonymous said...

I can't understand how Stallworth can be basically banned from the NFL after his DUI/manslaughter conviction and Vick can be reinstated for the awful crimes he committed. Now before you go off on me, I am not saying that killing a dog is the same as killing a human being...I am not saying that. What I am saying though is Stallworth made a dumb choice that could happen to a lot of people these days. He made a dumb choice to drink and drive that ended horribly for the victim. He did stay at the scene, report and didn't run, and owned up to his actions throughout the process.

Vick on the other hand would likely still be dog fighting today if he hadn't gotten caught. He was cold and calculated in killing innocent dogs and other house pets that got thrown in the ring. Someone like that has no regard for his actions and is unlikely to be sorry for them.

I just don't understand the difference in the NFL's thinking here based on the actions and calculations of the individuals.

Anonymous said...

the queation I have yet to hear discussed...

IF somebody does sign him, who in the world, among players, is going to respect his leadership as a QB?

a kick returner, OK.

Quarterback, I don't think so

John Fox said...

Vick is ten times better then Delhomme has ever been.

Vick is a major difference maker on the field.

Delhomme's job desciption is to try not to screw things up, and he's not even capable of that.

Anonymous said...

Dear God, NOOOOO! I don't know if I'm in the minority or not, but if the Panthers were to sign him, I would no longer be a fan. Just thinking of the torture those dogs went through makes me sick to my stomach.

par said...

Not sure how much Vick cleaned his act. We do not need another circus in Charlotte. This is a well run organization.

Can we afford to take the gamble? I doubt we should.

Anonymous said...

The NFL is a for profit organization just like so many other companies that exist today. There is no "priviledge" involved in playing professional sports. Sure we have glamorized it as such, but in actuality the NFL uses athletes to create a product that generates a tremendous profit. I say all that to point out that the NFL will do what is necessary to keep such profits high. If bringing Michael Vick back will generate profit then they will do it (excuse me did it). The media circus only means more people tuning in to see their product. And if PETA wants to buy tickets to go in an boo him at games then last time I checked their money was green just like everybody else. In conclusion the NFL is going to do what it has to do to make money. If that means allowing a person who has served jail time for a crime to return to the sport well then don't be surprised or shocked. Money talks.

Anonymous said...

He has paid his debt to society and he is a better option than any of the quarterbacks the Panthers have. Could you imagine a offense with Vick, DeAngelo Williams/Jonathan Stewart, and Steve Smith...WOW!!!!

Anonymous said...

Keep convicted felons out of pro sports.

Anonymous said...

absolutely the panthers should sign him. he's a much better back-up for Delhomme. He'd offer a lot in some wildcat situations or if DeAngelo got hurt. Finally, Charlotte is the ideal market for him to stay below the radar. Also, he and Steve Smith would be tight.

Anonymous said...

amazing. the same people that would welcome Vick here are the same people throwing Peppers under the bus.

Anonymous said...

Has everyone that thinks Vick would be a good addition to the Panthers forgotten no running QB like Vick hasn't won a title ever. Teams keep trying to find a way througout the years to turn a QB like Vick or McNabb (which I actually respect and realize he is not as much of a running QB as he was early in his career) and a whole host of other
running/scrambling QBs into a superbowl winner. We have a far better chance of making it back to a SB with someone like Jake than we do with Vick.

footballchic said...

If Jerry Richardson had any kind of business savvy about him..he would grab" Vick"...Vick has paid his debt...Vick would bring $$$ to the Carolina Panther franchise... he would bring the crowd/fans for the games...Face it....he' needs us and we need him. So what if would not mix well with the "wine and Cheese" crowd...He's a crowdpleaser and thats all that matters.

Anonymous said...

The day the Panthers sign Vick will be the day I stop supporting the Panthers. Yes he "paid" his debt but he still should not be allowed to play pro sports again.

Anonymous said...

I fail to understand how one can equate being employed as on-field talent in a professional sports league as a "privilege" and not a "right" and thereby argue that Vick is entitled to work in or at (apparently) any other job but not as a professional athlete.

Whether the lucky few who have the rare combination of freakish god-given talent and/or superhuman work ethic and maintain that over a short period of years are "privileged" is another question altogether, but if he has a reasonable expectation of being able to participate I fail to see how you can possibly argue that the NFL (with its congressionally snactioned monopoly, no less) shoudl be allowed to exclude him based on his status on the mere basis that playing in the NFL is a privilege. It is not a sensitive governmental position where moral turpitude is an impediment to security, nor is it a self-regulated learned profession in a position of high trust in society such as lawyers and doctors where licensing is strenous and left up to the professions themselves to determine substantive comptency and character.

The view point that he has no right to not be discriminated against in his employment on the basis that pro sports employment is a "privilege" is patently ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

Vick deserves to play in the NFL as much as any of the other "perfect" players who play sports or work on any job or who make self-righteous comments on this website because they are so saintly that they already have one foot planted in Heaven. Pleaseeee!I'll take Michael Vick anyday! Really.

He's gonna get more than 2 months to prepare and at that point he'll be better than JAKE! Vick has played in the NFL 6 years....1 year he was hurt and 4 PRO BOWL APPEARANCES. If we don't, NEW ENGLAND WILL!

You who forget to take the railroad tie out of your eye when you look at the spec of dirt in Vicks eye probably have forgiven others close to you but there is no way to forgive this man because he was involved in dog fighting. You bunch of hypocrites that allow abortion to take place, domestic abuse and the various sundries that are far more worse than dog fighting. Travel to Puerto Rico and they have a stadium that is solely dedicated to cock fighting. Peta is a bunch of crap. Why not the destruction of human life. To tough of a fight but everyone’s sympathy goes out to a kitten or puppy but not a child. All of you are a bunch of sanctimonious phonies. God will be much harsher on those who had and supported the abortion birth control method. The animal killers will be near the tail end of the judgment line. No wonder the Muslim world calls us the great Satan, we kill out own children in the womb but are more concerned about saving animals.

I think Vick needs a second chance. I have seen people from Bill Clinton to Al Sharpton lie about their actions and misdeeds. Let the man suit up and prove he is a changed man.
Not one race or gender has a dog in this fight, no pun intended.

America is built constitutionally around the "Second Chance."
What can society learn from someone that does get it and turns their life around.
A majority of the the people commenting on this story and Vick in general have many skeletons in their closet, but no one knows because no one cares about them and their minimum wage job.

YES!

As far as I'm concerned, sign Vick and clear out a lot of these fans that want to tell everyone else what to do.
I say, good riddens to em, they can become Dallas fans.

He can't redeem himself on the field. All that proves is that he can still play football; anybody can do that. If he wants to redeem himself, he should volunteer full time at animal rescue clinics. He should donate his earnings to the care and feeding of animals. He should go door to door and apologize to every citizen for being a self-centered scumbag. And the the person who wrote that we all make mistakes, that's true. None of us are perfect. But at least I know that my mistakes have never been purposely cruel and inhuman.

This is probably why none of you own a NFL Football team. But let's be serious for a moment, the man had paid back his debt to society and had a serious reality check. Some of you still find a way to undermine the man and the fact that people make mistakes. I guess if he was a white man, then everything would be quiet as keep. Forgive and forget, he obviously was going through somethings that made him committ the crime. Mike will be ok, with or without your blessings.

I have never been a Vick fan and have always rooted against him due to the hype. But how does one justify him never playing again in the NFL due to dog fighting when Leonard Little and Dante Stallworth slap run over someone killing them and just do a few days in jail. Driving drunk killing people should get you kicked out of the NFL before killing dogs.

Who cares if he's paid his debt. Athletes are icons and persons that our children look up to, letting him return to the NFL is sending the wrong message to our children. How do we know he has 'changed" and "learned" a lesson, those are words anyone can say, he's a felon, who shouldn't be able to have any influence on our children, unless it is volunteering with the at risk youth in our society. He needs to prove the changes he says he's made. He's a loser who commited a crime, he's intelligent and who cares if he was going through something, that doesn't make it right. Yes he should be forgiven, but he shouldn't be able to influence our children.

Vick's quaterback rating was in the toilet. I love you NFL football genius's no doubt the Nick Mackey voters of the world.
And it just wasn't about killing dogs you scum bags. He was charged with interstate commerce violations, illegal gambling, lying to police and butchering animals.

All the people talking about "kids look up to sports players as role models" need to be a role model to your own kids. Dont let your kids think theyre going to be like some superstar sports freak making millions a year because 99% of them wont have the abilities to do it. Teach your kids that this is a game, entertainment, not your only goal in life. Let Vick play if a team is in the market for him, (by the way with this salary cap hurting the panthers, maybe they can afford him now. I mean, i wouldnt mind him playing for the Panthers if he can come in as he was b4 he left the game.

Next time a player consorts with illegal gamblers he will say that Vick did it and suffered no penalty.

I am a true Panther Fan and regret that the Richardsons's who claim to be so righteous can't find it in their "God Loving" heart to forgive Michael, isn't that what Jesus would do, or is that only if you are white. Not the kind of player we want to see in a Panther uniform. Five possibilities - Dallas, Oakland, San Francisco, Minnesota, Buffalo. Only a fool would underestimate Vick. How accurate do you have to be to chuck a ball down the field and let Smith go get it. Delhomme is about as accurate as a scud missle.

I am glad Michael Vick was reinstated. This will teach PETA that they don't rule the world. I wonder how much time Michael Vick would have gotten if he had molested a child or killed a human being perhaps less time that he got for dog fighting and from what I heard, he only footed the money for it. I'm sure PETA nor anyone else would be talking about it, but LOL hurt an animal and PETA and others who love their dogs and cats more than a human being lose all sense of reality.

Vick was raised with dogfighting around him. Just like drugs or anything else, it becomes apart of you. So, when in his life did someone tell him it was wrong? Never happened. You people love your dogs more than you love other people. To Vick, a dog was not a family member. When you look at it through Vicks eyes it was no big deal. Now it's out, Vick never thought it would distroy him. He never had any problems with his behavior before he went to prison why would he now. Some one needs to just sign him and give him a chance. Not to be a racist or sound like one the PANTHERS never give our mobile QBs a chance like craig,he was better than delhomme, even matt moore at the end of 2007 year was better than delhomme, anybodies better than the jhoke delhomme,Bojangles keep paying him off(to lose)We need a new leader in the pocket why not bring Mike Vick in to put pressure on Jake to make him step his game up ,while Vick is cheap,an still can sell tickets

Vick always earned respect from his teammates in Atlanta through his toughness and desire to win. That being said, not many players truly respected him as a person. This is a guy that gave the middle finger to Atlanta fans TWICE (literally), way before he was busted for being the country's worst dog owner.

Regardless, I feel that he has served his time and deserves the right to find employment in the NFL. But if you think this guy will make your team better, you are way off the mark. He has been out of the game too long and lacks the dedication to make a quick leap back. Besides, I expect that he has lost a step speed-wise, and without that, he is well below average as a quarterback. Throw in a negative media frenzy, and it reeks of disaster.

Sounds perfect for the Raiders.

Sign him up!!! We can't get any worse. Besides even selling tix for fans to boo him brings in the money. Welcome Vick.

I am glad Michael Vick was reinstated...and from what I heard, he only footed the money for it."

Then you must have been on another planet when all this happened. Trial testimony proved Vick participated in killing dogs, torturing them, gambling on dog fights, and running the gambling/fighting ring. Do some research before talking next time, why don't you?

But sure, sign Vick to the Panthers. Watch people show up for games wearing dog-head masks. Listen to the boos drown out the cheers for the home team. Watch the media circus this punk generates overshadow any good the team does.

I wouldn't pay a nickel to watch this thug play. He made money and got his jollies watching innocent animals fight and die, and encouraged others to do so. He personally killed dogs that wouldn't perform. You think this is the type of person we need here as a major public face of the Panthers? No way. It would be a disaster, not to mention a supreme insult to the rest of the respectable members of the team.

I hope Vick has nightmares of dogs coming to get him in the night for the rest of his despicable life.

Anonymous said...

I think the cruelty of the dogs was of the way Vick disposed the dogs. If you think about it;asian & 3rd world countries eat dogs. You better check your chinese food before you bite into it. Meow! Woof Woof!

It's good he was reinstated, so he can't blame not playing on that. Now he'll know that nobody wants his sorry a**.

It is what it is....The Panthers dont really have anyone this year...If we even remotely want to get near the playoffs this year...we need to grab him...All this talk about Character and Morals sickens me....There is not one person out there that does not have some form of a 'skeleton"in his/her closet. GET VICK PERIOD.

Anonymous said...

Let's be frank, Vick, was a part of killing dogs and spent 18 months in jail and lost everything. Donte Stallworth killed a MAN, got 28 days in jail.

He has to get another chance because he paid more than his debt. What he did was foul. Trust me, other NFL players are on the field and have done worst, (i.e Ray Lewis killed 2 people).

Either way, it will make news and people like us will blog about it.

Scott pointed out that coach likes an "accurate" throwing quaterback. Since when has JakeD ever been accurate in his throwing? Let's be honest, every now and then he makes a connection but for the most part the receivers have to go get the ball if it's in reach at all.

I guess some see some things there that I don't.

it's funny to me that all of you fellow Americans have gotten so passionate about dogs. I mean this is a country that was founded on cock-fighting, dog fighting, running greyhounds, etc. do we not shoot horses when they break a leg. i mean really, to want to take away a man's option to play football is crazy and to say that he's a terrible person to society is insane. MV had only been in minimal trouble up to this point. if the shoe was on the other foot, all of you would want to play!!!!

barkomomma said...

Sure, sign him. One caveat: make sure his contract includes a clasue so that if he has a game where he doesn't perform well, we can do to him what he did to his dogs.

Anonymous said...

Scott, please! Just set the "What if?" monkey to the side and slowly step away. You can write something else, ok?

Anonymous said...

Hell No! He is a loose canon. Like OJ. He wll end up hurting someone.

Anonymous said...

He doesn't fit in Carolina lol. I sat 4th row 50 yard line at the 2006 season opener when Vick defeated us by HIMSELF. Explain that? Head to head he runs all over Jake.

We lack at the quarterback position and to say Delhomme has us covered lol, do you even watch football????

Weigh the business and common sense facts:

- The Panther's would not suffer at all in taking Vick and also playing him more than Jake who does nothing more than make free Bojangle's commercials to keep his job here.

- Bringing in Vick puts but's in seats. Translation? Mo Money, Mo Money, Mo Money.

- To add aditional revenue, Vick brings more of a likelihood of gettingthePanther's to a Super Bowl than does non-throwing, non-scrambling, slow-moving, Jake D.

The man was involved in dog fighting, dog fighting! Not murder, not selling dope, not beating a woman, not protstitution, not preying on children, not mistreating the elderly, not rape, not breaking in houses and cars but dog fighting. All these other people are on the street and Dan Robinson says let Vick rot? I bet Dan and others haters have never even spoken a lie, cursed, or had even a bad thought about something or somebody in his or their lives. Even if they had, everybody deserves another chance to get it right. If Vick get's it wrong then that's his behind and he get's what he deserves, but throwing away the key on people is sensless.

I am not a football fan, especially the National Thug League. However, it is a particularly sad commentary when we have people here saying yes we should suit him up and have thousands of people cheering for him. We should have our children wearing his jersey and emulating him. What a sick world we live in. Yes he did his time. So let him return to society. Just don't allow someone that commited the heinous acts that he did return to hero status in our society. And Scott Fowler shame on you for even giving this scum more press.

What kind of message are we sending to those who idolize sports stars by reinstating this loser? Yeh, go ahead, commit a crime, no biggie, just pretend you are sorry and go back to making millions - I don't think so.

He is a CRIMINAL! And he's not sorry for what he did, as someone else here said, he's just sorry he got caught. However, if he does play, I imagine there are lots of linebackers out there just waiting to get him on the field and knock the crap out of him, just because.

Anonymous said...

I can't understand all you people who is hating on Vick right now. He has paid his dues to society. But many think this and that. Who are you to judge anyone,Vick 's game is on point and will stay on point for all you haters. In the meanwhile most of you act as if you never haven't seen cruelty remember slavery that was the most cruel and besides people fight chickens and other animals. When they get caught its not that big of s a story but when a black person do something wrong they can't get be forgiven. What is it that you people really want? Stop judging now cause I'm pretty sure we all have our own faults. let this man get on and live he made a mistake and he can change if he wants to,Michael please don't give up let these haters just hate and remember keep your enemies close so you can keep an eye on them learn who is there for you. It's only a test brotha. Like Pac said keep your head up! much love to you and do what you gotta do.All you haters get a life and some business about yourself so you can do something besides run your mouth.

I don't care how good he WAS. I don't want him on my team. If he plays for the Panthers, I'd never buy a ticket ever again! He violated a code of conduct that every NFL player pledges to uphold. I'm surprised they let him back in.

Anonymous said...

Carolina will never get to the NFC championship with Jake Delhomme ever again!

Bring on Vick!

Anonymous said...

I wish the Panthers would sign Vick. The Panthers would automatically become an unstoppable team. Those of you who are saying he shouldn't play are probably the same wine and cheese fans that get upset if a real fans stands up and cheers.

If my memory is corret, I dont think Vick was convicted of committing the actually killing of the dogs. I'm thinking he was covicted of funding the whole thing.

Anonymous said...

Anony at 8:47 - This isn't a racial issue. No one else said anything about that and frankly if he was caucasian, hispanic, indian, whatever, it doesn't matter - what he did was wrong and violates the law, the NFL code of conduct, etc. I'm sure people would be saying the same thing if it were Jake D. who'd committed the crime...let's not make this into something it isn't.

Anonymous said...

"Should the Panthers sign him?"

You're joking, right? Maybe when the temperature in hell drops to zero degrees.

What a stupid question, even if it is only hypothetical.

Vick is an animal, a beast....i don't care about his race...he's an athlete among athletes.

let's sign him up

Anonymous said...

How different people are is truly amazing. People, (pro athletes, politicians, police officers, mill workers) can go out and hunt defenseless animals because its hunting season and thats not a problem. For some odd reason people think its ok to have pets and cage them up, or keep them in a pen, or restrict them from their natural habitat and its alright, then get a pat on the back for it and feel like they are doing the animal a favor. People mistreat animals all of the time in some different way that is not natural for the animal, but they are not considered sick or demented. Its just what they are doing is ok according to human society's standards. What about according to the animal kingdom?
Now Michael Vick mistreated some dogs and all of a sudden people are putting him on the same level as a serial killer or something. He overpaid his debt in my opinion. I think the real problem people are having is the fact that he is gifted enough to make millions doing his job and he is not the average guy like most of us. People are talking about their kids looking up to these pro athletes and celebraties, we should be in the business of living our lives so that our kids look up to us and point out to the kids that these guys are just people who are lucky enough to get paid for playing a game. Adults are the ones who put pro athletes on pedestals not children. Children only look up to the people adults tell them its great to be like. I've heard about numerous people in the Charlotte area getting arrested for the same types of animal offenses that Michael Vick had since his arrest. I have wondered if they were also going to get federal jail time or be picketed once whatever happened to them was completed when they tried to go back to work.
People look at yourselves and see if you get a perfect reflection back from the mirror for all of the things you have done in your lives. Let Michael Vick live and make a living, and concentrate on being the best you that you can be.

Anonymous said...

Michael Vick is a low life and an idiot. Some of you keep talking about he paid his debt to society. So did many "REPEAT" offenders. Each time they are caught. Ever notice how serial killers seem to start off killing and torturing animals. Vick is no different. I guess if he can kick and throw a ball, that makes is OK. That is until he does something to you or yours. Then your face will be the first one on TV yelling for JUSTICE!!! People like Vick only escalate. He didn't take a pack of gum from the corner store. He killed and tortured creatures that couldn't fight back. Do you think he has a high moral standard that if given the chance he wouldn't do the same to a human? Wake up people. Just because he can throw a ball doesn't make him "human of the year".

Jon said...

What Vick did was disgusting. The system judged him, punished him and he served that punishment. That is our legal system.

The NFL is not a league for Saints (no pun intended). Vick is hardly the worst guy ever to play pro football. While I don't like him and still think he's not a guy I'd want babysitting my kids (or pets, certainly) I don't think that his act should prevent him from playing pro football. It should prevent him from getting other jobs that are related to his crime - say being a veterinarian's assistant or something. Even child care, definitely. But no pro football. He is not a danger to other players (any more so than the average NFL player).

I don't like what he did and think its terrible. I'm not sure anyone can ever fully pay their debt on something like that, but he did pay the debt our legal system required of him and to that extent he should be allowed back in the league.

Anonymous said...

Let's bring him on!!! Triple threat, QB, wr, and rb. His debt has been paid; the rest is between him and god. I did not agree with the Panthers extending Jake's contract but I still love the Panthers. If you were to stop being a fan if the Panthers signed Vick, then you were never a true fan anyway. Go Panthers!!!!

OVER SOME DOGS!!!??? They're following this man, EVEN AFTER HE'S DONE HIS TIME...to a strip club, like it matters to us. Then This?? Ben Rothesburger has been accused of Rape..and it has been swept under the rug. Child molesters, and drug dealers get less coverage than this man, OVER SOME DOGS? They follow him like he was a Mob boss, or he walked around beating people...LOL This man is still a good QB, and any team that doesn't get him, is stupid. If Off field character is the measuring stick to how good a player you can be, then Brett Farve should've quit a long time ago when he became addicted to drugs. This is why I think we need change. Majority of people (whites) still talk as if this man will "Explode" and do something "Unpredictable" and "Dangerous" at any moment. So lets follow him and create news and try to persuade teams not to pick him up. He's still a helluva football player, who's served his time. Lets talk about Ben Rape'n that girl. Because Kobe was in the news for weeks until we found out that chick lied on him.

Again with race - good grief! This is not a racial issue - the people who are hating on Vick (and how do you know they are white - that's racist to make that claim) are doing so because he took part in a cruel and sadistic practice on innocent dogs for fun (which is beyond disturbing!) - killing, beating, electricuting, etc.

Anyone who can do that without guilt is certainly capable of much worse things (no matter their race).

Anonymous said...

you people are idiots. if you think vick can do that much better than jake than you must not follow football very much. yeah vick can run. he has thrown for under 55% of his passes though. jake had one aweful game the season after having tommy-john surgery. if you bail on jake now your not really a panthers fan.

Anonymous said...

Not to make this a "Black/White" Issue, But The Majority of the people I hear talking bad about Vick, are WHITES. If you don't think the time he did fit the crime, write your congressman....LOL He's out people, let him be. Martha Stewart had HUMAN Slaves, and did her time, and nobody said she should've been BANNED from the business. But white folk welcomed her with open arms, and gave her oppertunities. You guys are talking like Vick will just kill a dog on site....LMAO

Anonymous said...

well he basically did but thats not the point. every animal has a right to live. he purposely tortured living animals. why even make it a white/black thing

Anonymous said...

I agree with the post about hearing mostly whites talk about Vick like he's a serial killer. MY GOD PEOPLE....he has servied his time. This man is not a menace to society, or a threat to human kind. And in my opinion, with the weapons the Panthers Have, would really add to the Offensive power of the team. What he did had nothing to do with his playing ability. And if you want to quit bein a fan if they do pick him up....GOOD. Not like you will be missed....or it will matter to everybody else....(except other whites who want to keep this thing going....just because...)He will pull in some fans to replace you, just because he's Vick...LOL

Anonymous said...

people like u is why racism is still alive. nobody was talking anything about the color of anyones skin. we were talking about a person who killed inocent beings. yes i liked vick myself as i live in va. but i do not excuse the fact that he killed. thats not because someones white or black so take that shit on somewhere

Anonymous said...

vick didn't do anything to a dog that most teenage boyz don't do. I did some crazy stuff to animals as a kid, just boys being boys. it's all good. they are just dogs. they probably liked fighting and stuff anyways.

anyways, he is a great football player. he did his time like anyone that does something wrong. jake needs to go back to nfl europe and let a real playa be a qb in teh queen city.

uncage vick and turn him lose on our opponents.

Anonymous said...

vicks not a boy. he is 29 now. r u saying that u would go out and do the same thing. he would never do what jake has done in carolina. even if, they do not run the kind of offense for him

I was appalled by what he did, however, he has served more time than some, and he should be allowed to play football...I believe he should go to a team that is struggling financially and on the field, because the publicity alone good or bad will increase ticket sales and media coverage...because everyone will want to see him play.

Anonymous said...

Come to think about it, I have to agree with the above post. I'm ONLY hearing from whites, whether it's at my job, on the subway, or on the news, talk about how much they want Vick to continue to suffer because of what he did, even though he's already done his time. Not making it a "Racial Issue", but it is the truth. Seems as though only whites have a problem with him even though he's done his time.

Anonymous said...

yes i deserve he has a chance to redeem hisself, but most of u people believe he did nothin wrong and all of u are blind to what has happened.

Anonymous said...

i'm white and pro-vick

you are crazy and try to make hate.

he served his time for his crime and is a good ball player. let him play.

stop the hate please.

Anonymous said...

I have a problem with how the News is describing this man on TV, the words they use, it's like they're trying to persuade teams to not take him...LOL And After watching Jake "Point Shave" in the playoff lost, I think it's time for him to go. No one plays that poorly in one quarter, with the Offensive weapons the Panthers have. Vick brings a different and added threat to the Offense. Now, you not only have to worry about Steve, or the two RB's, but you will also have to worry about Vick taking off and running. Something Jake can't do. And as far as getting the ball to the WR's, only jake had a problem with that in the lost. Locking on to Steve and Steve only. He's so predictable as a QB.

Anonymous said...

what whites. can you see the people that r writing these posts, or r u just talking about the people u see personally. i hear the same all the way around when i hear people say something about him. i think he should play and play miserably as he has always done

Anonymous said...

That's the problem right there.....why talk about what he did? He DID it. (Past Tense) LOL Now, lets stop holding it over his head, and allow the man to play. this type of mental contributes to the reason most men who serve go back to prison when they get out. Folk like the ones in here, who want to CONSTANTLY remind the person of what he DID, and keep him down, and to remind the people of what he DID, makes it hard to get a job and recover out here.

Anonymous said...

u people r not panthers fan to not believe in your own team. give confidence and maybe they will win it all. vick only had one good season with the falcons so what makes u think he would be any kind of a pass threat with the panthers

Anonymous said...

WOW, never thought about the people who talk about Mike. But reading these post, and listening to the people in my office, it is only the whites who are acting like this man should remain in shackles and never play again...LOL WOW And how come no one is still talking about the Rape Case against Ben. I saw someone mention it earlier. But it's been hushed up. I know Kobe is Heated....LOL

Anonymous said...

so u would want a multi time rapist to be on the street, not saying thats what vick is, but thats the kind of thing your saying

Anonymous said...

u people are idiots to make this about race and im black

Anonymous said...

Not a "Rapist"...of course not. Vick killed dogs though....so unless this man is seen near a "Kennel"...we need to leave him alone, and let him play. Quit holding it over his head. He's done his time. Or was that not enough? Personally, I think Martha Steward should've never been allowed back into the clothing business, after she served time for having "Slaves" make her items. But hey.............only in America....LOL

Anonymous said...

i agree only in america. half the us's products are made by overseas childen, just look at the soccer balls that are used. that does not still justify the fact that he killed something. people say there just dogs. they are supposed to be mans best friends. i still think he deserves the chance but damn stop over thinking what he did

Anonymous said...

yeah.....they're really wearing me thin with following this man around, into Strip Clubs and basically stalking this man, AFTER he's served his time. I like what was said earlier......As long as you don't see him near any Dog Kennels, he's good....LOL

Anonymous said...

Vick was set up. the white man brught him down thay enjoy every minute of it.He still bes the man.

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

why aren't u standing behind O.J. too. anyone

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with saying that?? It's the truth, just like not seeing a convicted child molester near a school house. how is what was said ignant? LOL I would have to agree with what was said. Now, when they do spot him near a dog kennel, then it needs to be on the front page. Until then, give the brutha a chance to show that what he did was just a bad decision. Something he had been doing since he was a little boy. Then again....they fight other animals down south, and We don't hear or see about the outcome like Vick in the Media. Why is that?

Anonymous said...

People...don't believe everything you read from folk that post "Anonymous"...LOL No one feels as if Vick was set up. Sold out by his boys maybe....but not set up. His boys snitched on him, to cut deals, that testimony alone should've been tainted. They lied to get lesser time. But white folk jumped right on what was said.

Anonymous said...

oh so your saying he's been doing it since he was a little boy, that just makes it so much better huh. you must do the same thing if you think thats alright for someone to act that way

must be only black folk commenting now. you all need to get ur heads out of ur ass's and stop making it a black/white thing

Anonymous said...

No, I'm saying he made a dumb boy decision.....just like most "boys" make. He just continued it until he was in his Mid 20's. ...it was just a dumb "Boy Decision". But like I also said. They have "Cock Fights" and other animal killings that go in in the south. ANd those men that have been caught, and convicted, didn't hit the news like Vick has. No one is following those men around to strip clubs like it's any of our business.

Only going by my peronal observations. It is what it is. That's all I'm hearing from whites. And even though they don't want to admit it, I'm willing to bet that the folk in here commenting on Vick like he's the antichrist, I bet you are white. But hey...posting behind "Anonymous", you can be anything....LOL So it would be hard for me to prove my point. But judging from what I'm hearing at work......I would bet on it...LOL

Reading all these comments, I am just appalled at all of you who think they are holier than thou. HATE is such a vicious cycle so when does it stop? Michael Vick was dragged through the mud over some dogs, not humans....dogs. And furthermore, why is it HE has to be the one that is subject to all this hate? What about those OTHER Dog fighting trainers strewn all throughout the hills and mountains of Tennessee that are fight training dogs as I type this? Hundreds of others are doing that very same thing Michael Vick did and not a damn thing is being done to stop it. But to make Michael Vick an example is what was so damn important. Most of you that disagree with him being reinstated are either JEALOUS of a Black Man that was making MILLIONS or just will NEVER be able to have the athleticism he possesses to play in the NFL. PERIOD. You can deny this all you want, but it is all about HATE. If it weren't, you would FORGIVE him just like the man upstairs forgive each and everyone of us for every little sin we do. Wishing he flop, saying he could never change, I mean come on....you don't even really KNOW the guy. Like You don't have a bad bone in your body...gimme a break. People need to start being a little more forgiving especially for those who even make STUPID mistakes in their life...day in and day out. He served out his punishment that was implemented for the crime committed. Why must he CONTINUE to have to endure more? Who died and made YOU G - O - D? Get over it, he will be back and I'm happy for him. Now if he DOES revert back to making bad judgements and decisions...THEN I can see where the concern can be felt.

perhaps it is more of a male/female issue (it clearly isn't a black/white issue) - in my office, many of the men think he should play, many of the women think he shouldn't, but both genders have supporters on both sides of the issue. But everyone agrees that what he did was wrong. Race doesn't seem to have any factor in the lunchtime office poll...so knock that sh*t off and stop making it about race & perpetuating racism with your comments.

This is the south morons...yeah I dont agree with fighting animals but its happening right now somewhere. They are an animal...its a sports to some people much as riding horses or boxing with humans. So we can fight humans...possibly kill each other..but animals are so much above us? By the way...South Carolina.....the gamecocks....isnt their logo a fighting rooster? Pretty sure it is..but why doesnt anyone complain about that....OH YEAH..because people in america eat chicken so its ok for those animals to die. Please people...get a life. Agreed! Idiots. I’m white and have been defending Vick on this thread since yesterday and have been defending him since BEFORE prison. Not many I know, regardless of race, agree with the punishment he has already gotten much less more. The few I have heard against him are just like I said before, the same ones asking me to sit down so they can see when we are in the 4th quarter with the game on the line.
ROTOWORLD news: Bills, Bengals, Seahawks, Redskins, 49’s, Raiders are not interested.
PLEASE, Sign him so at least if we do make a play-off game I can see him come in and salvage something out of the crap Jake will leave OR at the very least I can protest with a brand new Carolina Blue VICK JERSEY that I’ll wear on opening day!

Anonymous said...

A Vick Jersey?
Just got my brand new authentic Cardinals Jersey #11 back from the seamstress that placed a big DELHOMME on the back and front. It’s my official game day wear for this year.
Anyone that knows football knows even after 2 years off that Vick is twice the QB Jake every was.

Anonymous said...

Vick should change his first name to Barack, then we'd all fall down and worship him.

Anonymous said...

No, we'd only do that if he changed his name to Warren Moon.
Come on, get a grip, breath, relax. He IS better that Jake and he HAS paid for his trouble.

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry.....I can only go off of MY OWN observations on my end. And alllll I hear is hate coming from whites when they talk about Vick, is that he shouldn't play. Haven't heard a black yet to say he shouldn't. But then again, blacks are a little more forgiving than whites when someone has served their time. For some reason, whites want him and others who have been convicted of a crime, and did their time in prison, to continue to suffer, even though they've done their time?? and faced humiliation. Those that have condemed him to "indefinite" suspension, haven't even given the man the chance to show he's humble and learned his lesson. Hypocrits.....and from what I'm reading..."A hit dog will holla", so if stating that the majority of whites are the ones that feel he shouldn't play, makes you respond....then that's nothing but a guilty thought. Only telling it like I see it. But....it's The same reason why Ben's rape allegation is receiving less attention than when Kobe was wrongly accused.

Let Michael Vick play here in Carolina! Yes he did a bad thing, but he has paid his debt!

Look. Dog fighting and chicken fighting has been a part of the south for a LONG LONG time. Yes it is illegal now. But along time ago it wasnt. Again he paid his debt.

I hate how these Peta peeps and Vick haters come on here and whine about how terrible his crime is and he shouldnt get a chance. Well my god players have killed people in the nfl and got to come back and play. So Vick kills some damn dogs and he doesnt deserve it?

Maybe Peta and these haters should help and do something far more important than save a bunch of dogs and animals. How about help the children of the world who are starving and have no families? Seems to me YOUR priorities are mixed up a bit! But then again helping and saving animals is far easier than helping your fellow man. Losers!

The haters of Vick, imo, are 90% racist anyways, ESPECIALLY here in Charlotte and NC.

Im tired of hearing, "Jake is all we got so shut up"

Jake lets the ball hang behind him at his knees and begs someone to take it from him. He throws too many interceptions. JAKE DELHOMME CANT RUN OR SCRAMBLE! He is not a quarterback. If it wasnt for Steve Smith he wouldnt have anyone to throw it too. Want to know why other recievers that come here dont last long? THEY DONT HAVE A QUARTERBACK THAT CAN GET IT TO THEM!

Dump Delhomme now! Use the wildcat formation with the awesome line we have and rule the NFL!

End of Line.

Let him play.Yes money does talk, but you gotta remember this a sport people. It's not like he was the President of the United States and had the Twin Towers destroyed killing thousands of people, not to mention the thousands losing their lives over seas.I don't see PETA crying about that though do we!!!!

EVen though vick did what he did he served his time and im glad he can play football agian and it would be awesome if the panthers signed him..

Should Carolina sign Vick? yes they should if for no reason to keep him out of the hands of teams in the south, have we not forgotten the problems gave us? we had to put in a special defense just for him, forget about his pass and lets see what he still has because Jake is going to fall apart if every Steve Smith gets hurt, look at how many times Smitty bail him out last year, Vick will make a team prepare for him even if he is not playing but as long as he is on that sideline you have to prepare for him. Lets face it Carolina fans we need something more when it 2nd and twenty or 3rd and 8 than the arm of Jake, bring vick in if he is anything like he was when he left its money well spent, because teams will have to have someone shadow him which will open up the tight end or the back coming out, think about it he has my vote to come join Panther Pride.

People can drop the race card, don't you retards realize there's a black president. There's not enough black people in America to single handedly get him voted in so that should tell you something. The white people had a huge hand in the election. I agree Vick has paid his debt to society, but he shouldn't benefit in millions for being a convicted felon. I have a felony and It's hard for me to receive a decent job. Little lone be praised with millions for killing dogs.

Whoever wrote this column is a idiot. Jake Delhomme is the worst QB in the NFL a regular choke artist. We need Micheal Vick. He is the all around player. People have done worst and gotten off. Judge him as a man and not what he did!!!!

ok I LOVE DOGS and everything, but to me I think Mike should have the privilege to play in the NFL. the fact that dogs are pets is getting in the way of logic. Many cultures eat dog. people in america mind you. eating dog wuld mean killing them, does that mean whoever eats dog should go to jail? On top of that lose their Job?? We kill animals everyday, cows, chickens, etc.. AND PLEASE don't tell me its different cause its for food. Killing is killing. A hannibal is not gonna get off charges for killing humans for food. so you wanna protect animal rights, hey good for you.. BUT you better go vegitarian, and go attack slotter houses as well. YES I feel for those poor dogs. YES I think what mike did was stupid. ( cuz he's makin real leagal money in the NFL and choses to make extra not needed money dog fighting) But I think the media and all you Vick haters are being little school girls and making the "drama" much more bigger than it is.

Yesterday is histroy. NONE OF US cna change the past. I'm sure we all have things in our past that we don't want to hear everyday for the rest of our lives. Who wants a constant reminder that you F@#$%! Up! How do we as a nation show our children that in this life you're going to mess up and make mistakes, and fall from Grace but GOD gives us a second chance to get it right. So who are we to say no son or no daughter I'm not gonig to give you another chance. For those of you who don't have anything else to do than to keep bringing up the past, get a life.

The question is what team will take the heat PR wise and invest in their future. The NFL is about making money, not building character and no team wants to be the first to commit. You know plenty of them want Vick. They just don't want to pay the price. Was he wrong? Absolutely. I have 2 Labs but I also know that what goes around comes around and Mike Vick did his time. If anyone thinks you can't find a dog fight within 45 minutes of downtown Charlotte, you're dreaming. It's part of our culture and he got caught. Dog fights, cock fights, people fights. We live in a violent world and when people get caught, they go to jail, do time and get out. Let him play. Will he be good? probably not but he can run faster backwards than Jake can forward. Everybody knows he's not coming here and everybody knows Jake is just average. No comparison. The question is why are there so many Vick haters and Jake gets paid 40 mil for the non performance of the decade? Somebody made a lot of money on that playoff game when Jake decided to do the monster choke....I have been in the stands from day one, traveling to Clemson from R/D but the last few years I can't justify making the trip to watch Jake. When we get a quarterback, I'll be back. Like I said someone made a lot of money on that playoff game.
