Panthers and T.O.? Oh no

So now Terrell Owens is a free man once again, having been cut by the Dallas Cowboys. The Cowboys apparently decided Owens wasn't worth all the drama, even though he's had at least 1,000 yards receiving in each of his 3 seasons there and scored a total of 38 TDs in those 3 years.

Somebody will hire T.O. again, of course. Even though he's 35 years old. If you look at his stats, he's been extremely productive for a long time.

But it shouldn't be Carolina. Carolina already tried a version of T.O. once, with Keyshawn Johnson, and that didn't work out. The role of "Veteran Wide Receiver To Gracefully Play Second Fiddle to Steve Smith" is already nobly played in Charlotte by Muhsin Muhammad.

And while Owens has been more productive than Moose if you look at the past several years, he's just not worth it. What he gives you in TDs he subtracts in team morale. T.O. is evidence that while there is no "I" in "T-E-A-M," there has always been a "me" if you just flip the letters around a little.

He doesn't fit with what the Panthers are trying to do here, and they should stay far away from him.

I agree completely with you scott! But I don't think that this is even a possibility, given the moral high ground the Panthers demand from their players. T.O. is a cancer to football teams and I think everybody has caught on to that. Will he be a free agent for long? no! But he will prob end up in Oakland or Chicago (receiver grave yards).

T.O. is a great athlete and, yes, his skill is dwindling, but he is getting older. What do you expect? He is still a great athlete...BUT, and I mean a big BUT, with all that said I'd still take him. Imagine Smitty and T.O. lining up. BUT I dont know how many fights T.O. and Smitty would get into. Plus I dont think Jake could take the comments T.O. would make to him. He's a little sensitive. So I know the general consensus would be "NO WAY do I want T.O." but if we could get him cheap and for a short time I would take him. The mans 35 years old and is about to run out of gas, yet still has some in him.

He is a cancer, plain and simple.

It's like the person who dates a cheater and knows it. They somehow think it will be "different" with them. When the same result happens, they either act like a victim or kick themselves. He's never going to change! Yes, someone will pick him up, and they will eventually get rid of him. To all who wax romantic about how great it would be to have him, I honestly don't know what to say! I guess logic and reality mean nothing to you!

Torry. Holt.

Scott, on the topic of ex-Cowboys players, what do you think of Roy Williams? Could he be useful in Charlotte?

Derek . . . Roy Williams is not an ex-Cowboy and I would not trade Moose for him - lockerroom-wise or for productivity.

Also, Scott, why do you you keep bringing up free agents like TO, Haynesworth, etc. when you know they would not fit into the character of the Panthers organization? As good as Bridges was for our O-line Hurney/Fox did not opt to keep him around after a couple of relatively minor infractions. Apparently you can't think of anything else to write about.

The Panthers already have a head case thug in Steve Smith. He's our version of TO! Don't make him out to be a choirboy. It's just a matter of time before be break someone else face or throw a sideline tantrum.

Dwight, Roy Williams the safety is an Ex-Cowboy,

This is a silly discussion because there is no way the Panthers would ever pick him up. This is pointless and a result of a slow off-season for the panties acquisition-wise

Good grief. So now every time a high profile player is released, we need to hear how he should not be a member of the Panthers. I think anyone with an inkling of knowledge about the Panthers know that they would never entertain the thought of bringing in TO. Please bring us some relevant Panther news (i.e. what are the latest rumblings on the Peppers trade discussions and will Ken Lucas be back in Carolina next year, albeit with a restructured deal?).

No T.O., please!

Forgive my football ADD, but does anyone really really really want to see Peppers traded for Jay Cutler? I love Jake, but maybe he needs some competition and an heir apparent. Just saying...

Joseph . . this blog was about TO and the discussion led to other wide receivers. Not safeties. Please keep up!

Dwight - with all due respect, man, the discussion led to other EX-cowboys. Only one roy williams (the safety) fits that title.

I think we can all rest assured that the Panthers organization would never hire TO. The Panthers receivers are extremely physical, not just Moose, but Steve as well. They MAKE plays. And not just by catching a pass in the open. They seal off running lanes, they protect the QB, they make defenders PAY for watching the RB or the QB & not paying attention to them until they are looking up from their backs. Has anyone WATCHED how TO makes plays? It's all, "gimme the ball!" on pass plays. And blocking? I could block with the same intensity TO demonstrates. He is a physical presence, to be sure. However, if the QB isn't throwing a pass to him, he's being critical of everyone else on the team for their poor contributions. TO can't handle the dedication to the game that Smith & Muhamed make on every play. Besides, can you imagine a game where Jake makes a couple of mistakes & becomes flustered, only to have TO whining in his ear? This would only add to his frustration & would be followed by interceptions & miscues.
