NASCAR needs Trevor Bayne

I wrote my column today on Trevor Bayne, who has a chance to be a real NASCAR star but has sat out the past month or so of driving because of a mystery illness.

I covered Bayne's memorable Daytona 500 win in February -- at 20, he became the youngest winner in the race's history -- and was extremely impressed with him, as just about everybody was. His combination of talent, giddy enthusiasm, good looks and aw-shucks Southernness bodes very well for him in the future.

That's if he can stay healthy. As I write in the column, I find it disconcerting that doctors never did quite figure out what was wrong with Bayne.

I honestly could not disagree more. He honestly lacks real personality. He is another Jimmie Johnson, minus the complete list of accolades. Other than a fluke victory and the benefits it provided, he has really done absolutely nothing to further the sport. He may soon be forgotten if he is unable to return. Ricky Stenhouse is clearly in a good spot to compete to take the #6 for next year....

So, anonymous 12:55, are you a Kyle Busch fan? You evidently had rather have a big jerk as a role model than a truly nice guy.

What do you mean personality. You MUST have been watching Kyle Busch. Trevor is a very humble person nothing like JJ.

Bayne has been one of the best ones in that area so I'm really worried because of the situation he's living, but well I KNOW THAT he'll come with new energy.
