Hello Panthers (but not Peppers)

The Panthers are back in summer school, and not because they didn't pass their EOGs. This is only another in a seemingly endless series of NFL minicamps that pop up in May and June prior to Panthers training camp, which starts Aug.2 this season in Spartanburg.

Anyway, it does give those of us who pine for the NFL a little dose of the sport. It's always good to see Steve Smith and DeAngelo Williams run around a little and Jake Delhomme throw some (and to his own guys this time! There's no other choice in summer school).

2 quick impressions after watching the first day of Panthers' summer school Wednesday:

1) Rookie DE Everette Brown looks very quick and has some veteran observers of the Panthers nodding their heads. His work ethic has already gained some positive reviews.

2) While the Panthers all publicly say they expect Julius Peppers on the first day of training camp in Spartanburg (he wasn't practicing Wednesday and isn't expected in summer school at all), I'll remain the naysayer on that one.

I just don't think Peppers will show up on Day 1 in Sparkle City. I think what's going on now is a silent protest, a "I-wanted-to-leave-and-you-didn't-accommodate-me-so-even-though-you'll-pay-me-a-million-a-game-in-2009-I-want-to-make-sure-I-get-my-feelings-across" kind of move. I don't think Peppers will actually hold out for any regular-season games, no, but as much as fans don't want it to, I think this will continue to linger.

Jake will be able to find a way to throw it to you media guys or a passer by if you hang around long enough. He is garbage.

Lets hope that Peppers maintains his class act and doesnt hold out. The rest of us are starving and jobless, come on man, a million a game? Are you a professional or a bum?

Too bad about Peppers. It would be good to have him at camp 1st day just to get acquainted with Meeks and to figure out how they best utilize Brown and Peppers together. Even if he doesn't make it to Spartanburg, I hope he shows up as soon as camp moves back to Charlotte.

I have season tickets and I refuse to cheer for Peppers this year. He does not embrace this team I will not embrace this spolied athlete.

Jake isn't garbage? He lead the Panthers to a 12-4 record after coming off a horrible season without him. How can you bash him. Yes, he had a horrible game against Arizona. When Adrian Peterson doesn't break 50 yards and fumbles during a playoff game, would you say he's garbage? Jake still has one of the best playoff records of all-time and is a proven leader. Yes, I would love to have a top 10 QB with a stronger arm and younger, but Jake isn't garbage!

Where was Peppers demands to be traded and hold-out talks last summer when he was coming off a 2-sack season? It's funny how he's now too good to play for the Panthers. As if we're beneath him and holding him back. How many Super Bowls, and playoff games have you played in Pep? There are guys that will play their entire careers in the NFL and not even sniff a playoff game, much less a Super Bowl. Stop being a spoiled millionaire, honor your contract and show up. I'm sorry you couldn't dictate what team you wanted to play for this offseason, but it's over. If you want to sit out, fine! We won't have to pay you, and can just franchise you next year and make you continue to sit out until you're too old to be a dominate force. It's time that teams stand up to players and not let them dictate who they play for. Oh, and Peppers.......keep your ass out of Suite and maybe you can return to your elite status. You're still just an above average DE with superstar potential. Until you stop taking plays off and play with the same intensity every down, you'll never be elite!

This Jake commentary is truly irritating - kinda like the demanding kid who by thinks he'll get his way by repetition. Jake is who we have. Deal with it.

What a F-ing DB Peppers is!! Next time you see him at Suite you should show him how to spell his name! I hope this jack*** gets another 2 sacks this year and screws himself without a reach around! F-ING D-B!

You spent all day at mini-camp and those are the only two impressions you have? One of them not even being about the camp? Come on, Scott! We want to know about the new kids in camp! How do they look?

Everyone is focusing on Julius Peppers and Jake, but we should pay attention to the fact that Everette Brown seems to be steppin up to the plate so far. If he plays well, and I think he will, the peppers issue will be moot. I don't like how the whole peppers thing is shaking out, but as true fan, I'm pleased with the bright spot that is Everette Brown

That's all you have to say after being there all day? Geez we need some new reporters at the Observer. There is a bunch of kids graduating from college right now that could do a much better job than what I read above!

I am sure Peppers will be VERY disappointed to not have your support. I'll bet he goes home and says, why did that guy is section 515 not cheer for me?

I am also tired of overpaid whining millionaires.I will side with the people who pay your ridiculous salary, the fans.Julius Peppers play or be ousted from the league.Find another job like the people that pay your salary.I may not always agree with my employeer, but I do still give 110% for him.The reason I do is because my loyal customers pay my salary. My employer and I work out our differences behind close doors. If you think the fans will support your no show actions,I believe it will blow up in your face.Buy the way,in the real world if you don't show up for work and don't call, you lose your job.Maybe we need to tell the players union to go to hell.Look what the union has done to Detroit. All greed and for what? The thousands that have worked all their lives to have lost it all.Is that really what you want in life? The average american worker made the NFL what it is and they can cause its calapse.Think about it!!!!!

From earlier post: "Where was Peppers demands to be traded and hold-out talks last summer when he was coming off a 2-sack season?"

Great question! Peppers is a disgrace to everyone and everything he pretends to stand for.

Just a couple of thoughts:
1) I am not a Peppers fan
2) Peppers did not demand to be traded last year because he had 1 more year on his contract
3) Peppers did not demand to be traded this year, he wanted to be an unrestricted free agent so that he could go to another team
4) Peppers contract expired this year
5) The Panthers franchised him knowing he did not want to play here

JAKE IS WASHED UP! HE'S A FLUKE QB! WITHOUT STEVE SUPERMAN SMITH JUMPIN OUT THE GYM TO CATCH A HIGH TRIPLE COVERAGE JAKE PASS HE'D BE WORKIN @ WALMART COACHING POP WARNER IN LOUISIANNA!

"Screw Peppers" He didn't show up half the time last season. The people of this area have treated him very good, even when he didn't show up for the game. He might as well have stayed home last year in the game with the Cardinals.

We need to start a campaign in the Charlotte Observer to dump Peppers. I saw on the NFL site where Baldinger said he would be back with the Panthers, because he has no other option. We need to let him know that we don't want him, because he has sabotaged our attempt to improve our team, he is not a team player, he has done everything possible to punish us for wanting compensation for losing him, and he is not worth 16.6 million per year. He doesn't want to be here, so why should we want someone who doesn't want us? You know Dallas would take him and they play the 3-4 and would surely give us a first for next year and Ellis. Of course we can't seek a deal, because that butt hole won't sign the tender. The fans should not forget his behavior toward us (if he comes back). Personally, I will pull for us to win every game, while I also pull for him to break his leg. When you treat the people that have been good to you like crap, they are going to wish the worst possible crap for you. Get the hell out of here Peppers, because when I spell "team", I don't see "Peppers" in it anywhere.

Yeah, anon 8:08. That's why he was the one throwing the ball to Muhammad when he had the most yards and TDs in the NFL while Smith was out. Retard.

Wow Peppers this Jake that. Peppers million dollars a game, Delholme new contract blah blah, we pay their salary. Most of you pricks are all just filled with envy. So great lets boo Jake every time he touches the ball and if Pep plays lets boo him everytime he lines up yeah we really have a chance at home with that kind of team support. The team wants Pep and Jake to start for at least 1 more season if that is what the team think is best at making it to the playoffs then we should support the team instead of focusing on 2 players of the many. Jake is the leader on offense, Pep is a quite leader that other defense players look up to especially with the youth we have now. See how each side responds when you boo the 2 of the few leaders on this team. idiots
