I've seen the most RIDICULOUS posts on here. 'tony pike is 6'8 260 and the best ever"? wtf? tony pike is 6'6 215, rail thin compared to cam newton who is a tree trunk. You guys are attacking the few things you CAN'T attack about cam newton? someone said he had a weak arm? was too skinny? couldn't run? too small? hahahh wtf? he's 6'6 248, humongous. HE should pocket poise and now the haters are interpreting that as him being slow in the NFL and unable to run? wow. and if he ran i'm sure you'd all say he couldn't pass. derek anderson is a clown, he's literally one of the worst QB's int he NFL. he had a great year in 2007 because of the coordinator, but has a career QB rating of 68, that's pathetic. and he's not 6'7 240 or whatever you fools were saying. he's like 6'6 225. If you ever see all the panthers QB's together you can clearly see Cam is the biggest. Cam def has a cannon arm too, like vick level arm. so whoever said he has a "weak" arm is seriously retarded. I mean the physical part is a given for Cam, the part we didn't know was the accuracy and the playbook. His accuracy looked great to me, noone has mentioned there were at least 4 drops, which would have made him 12/19, and a good amount of the imcompletions were on the money. Cam looked excellent for his first NFL game after just 2 weeks of practice with a complex playbook. all you prejudice guys are pathetic, truly, there's no denying Cam's potential and how well he played. No TD's, not even close? right, he had 2 passes dropped in the endzone that should have been caught and not 1 ball close to being picked. great pocket presence too. you all fools, truly. When Cam has MVP caliber seasons i'm sure these same guys will be calling him overrated etc.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757788746378060243.post-10025516519673536412011-08-15T13:08:40.263-04:002011-08-15T13:08:40.263-04:00It seems like everybody is either very high on New...It seems like everybody is either very high on Newton or is hating like they are gettin' paid for it. The ball was hitting them in the right place but batted down by the defenders. They were placed well enough to not be intercepted. As he gains game experience and more confidence, thse are more caught balls, especially if the receivers can get more separation. We saw what he could do when Armanti used his athleticism to get open. Sure, he misfired a little on Armanti on the near touchdown, but that was excitement getting the better of him. Each time on the field he will get better. He threw a couple of balls out of bounds when receivers were not open. That's better than holding it too long and getting sacked. Once Steve Smith, Armanti Edwards, and Greg Olsen are all on the field at once, there will be more open targets.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757788746378060243.post-73464150075874579712011-08-14T23:38:47.939-04:002011-08-14T23:38:47.939-04:00I have to say that I am embarassed by some of the ...I have to say that I am embarassed by some of the blatant racism that has consistently been demonstrated here. Clausen had good numbers (minus interception which wasn't really his fault). I really feel sorry for those "fans" who changed channels immediately after Clausen threw that pick. Well, not really since those folks aren't real fans.

Unfortunately, reading many of the comments on this board reminds me that too many of the folks posting either don't understand football, or let their prejudices overrule their sense!

Those bashing Newton obviously made up their minds before the game and are now trying o re-shape events to justify them. So, I'll take a moment to put some of those comments in perspective.

Newton hogged half the game - being a rookie and having had fewer practices, Rivera probably wanted a longer look at him. Probably a wise choice since THAT is what pre-season games are for. Keep your day job.

Newton had more incompletes: Yes, he did... he also had far more attempts, probably because they were trying more things and also, he was also playing with the less experienced receivers and had the less experienced line blocking for him. Bear in mind what he didn't do... he didn't throw interceptions and he didn't fumble when sacked. Several of his incompletes were diliberate throw-aways when an open receiver wasn't available.

Start Derek Anderson - uh, don't forget he was likely passing against a secondary that won't be on the team in three weeks. Yes, he did a nice job, but the real starters were probably already in the showers by that point in the game.

Then there was: "TD from Clausen
TD from Anderson, Go with the TD QBs."

OK, let's recalculate that... there were TWO TDs from Clausen, but unfortunately one of those was for the wrong side... so comparing net points between Clausen and Newton goes to Newton... he lead two 3 point drives with no turnovers for 6 unanswered points!

Let's be clear here... Rivera isn't John Fox, Anderson was brought in to mentor Newton and Clausen and to be available in a dire situation. If he were starter material, he wouldn't have been available.

Frankly, I'm a white guy who usually feels like the race card gets thrown around way to easily and way to often, but I'm really starting to wonder when I hear some of the BS trashing of Newton on these boards!

As for the boo birds... I'm actually happy that it happened and that Clausen was able to respond the way he did... that was a HUGE positive step in his development and may be a turning point in his career. EVERY SINGLE QB gets boot as some point... it's how they respond to it that will define their career. Last year, he collapsed and failed. This game, he came back out and did his job. If he can do that consistently, he will succeed!John - Harrisburgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757788746378060243.post-845521288918635932011-08-14T16:10:29.686-04:002011-08-14T16:10:29.686-04:00The reason Clausen doesnt get a pass like Edwards ...The reason Clausen doesnt get a pass like Edwards is because of his personality. Showing up to Notre Dame in a stretch limo fresh out of high school is disrespectful. Coming into your first season as a pro and trash talking our number one reciever and questioning his skill level is disrespectful. If you are going to do that you need to figure out how to put more than 2 wins down. Granted that Fox did give up last season doesnt excuse the fact that Clausen is a poor quarterback.
