3 random Panther thoughts

As the Panthers' coaching search kicks into gear and the dust settles from Jerry Richardson's rare press conference Tuesday, here are 3 random Panther thoughts:

1) Thank goodness a Ryan is getting involved in the Panthers' coaching search. Rob Ryan will get a look from the Panthers, whose four known candidates are all current NFL defensive coordinators. Wow, way to think out of the box, guys. Actually, though, Ryan is thinking a bit out of the box -- given the way Rex and Buddy do things, you just know Rob would be fun.

2) If you missed my final column on Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck -- whom the Panthers plan to take with the No.1 pick if he comes out -- you can find it here. I analyze Luck in the column and predict that Luck will ultimately come out, but I'm not at all sure about that. On the other hand, I'm very sure Jim Harbaugh isn't coming back to coach Stanford, which I think will help Luck make up his mind to leave.

3) I wonder if Panther president Danny Morrison has ever been at a press conference before and never been asked a question. Richardson joked during the conference that Morrison's free pass with the Panthers is over because he's now involved in the coaching search -- but with Richardson holding court, it lasted at least one more day. I doubt Morrison minded, though.

I don't get it our defense looked young but played well and looks like will be even better next year.

Our Offense, Disgusting and Jerry still living in his "old school" days(when he played) of "Run the ball Bend don't break defense" is still the way to go... NOT!

So the "D" looks promosing and The "O" Putrid..... So lets bring in a defensive coach and let Hurney etc. bring in another FLUNKIE Offensive coordinator, who the only thing he knows how to do is run block and then we have... run, run, pass... PUNT! Future looks bright!!!!

Hey Jerry! You better be CONCERNED about TV blackouts brah! because these "candidates" could'nt get a cameo on Survivor!

If I was Andrew Luck and if I was declaring myself for the darft, I would make it a point to categorically say "I will never play for the Carolina Panthers". I will do what Eli Manning did a few years ago and join maybe the 49ers where Harbaugh will be coaching. Under no circumstances will I ever play for Jerry Richardson, the old, anti-player, penny-pinching moron owner.

Not to make fun of handicapped or challenged kids but the Panther's Marketing Department should come up with a slogan using "JERRY's KID's" in some way, shape or form.

People will flock from all over the Carolinas to donate to "JERRY's KID's" if there even is football next fall.

Ryan somewhat intrigues me. Just my thoughts.

yes, please, let's hire another DC as head coach that won't let his OC do his thing.

That's the ticket. He can refuse to sign with the Panthers and enter the 2012 draft where there will be a rookie salary cap. Instead of getting $50 million from the Panthers he can get $4 million from Buffalo or whoever had the number 1 pick next year.

Good thinking.

I don't understand your hatred of the Panthers. Ask any player (except Peppers) about this team, and they all love it here! Look how many stay after they retire. Go back to NY and complain about the Giants, PUNK!

Here is 3 Random Thoughts about the coaching Search...

1) Really? this group of clowns is who we are interviewing

2) Really? this group of clowns is who we are interviewing

3) If this is the final list... we need to start addressing J Richardson,Hurney, and Morrisson as the 3 STOOGES !

Anonymous said...

Hurney must give one hell of a "smoker" behind closed doors!

Morrison must be a close second.

There has to be more qualified people to run a team in the NFL than these two light weights, right?

Anonymous said...

How is it that Hurney, the architect who mastered the destruction of the Panthers (not alone, of course) is still here? And is Jeff Davidson pounding the pavement yet? Sure hope so...that or pound sand.

Hope they get some true football minds in the front office....we miss Polian.

It was well known that Fox handcuffed his coordinators. I don't care if we get a Special Teams Coach as long as the guy has an open mind and a modern progressive view on how football can be played.

Anonymous said...

The Panthers can only interview Coordinators from teams not in the playoffs, so their opening list of candidates is going to be less than stellar. Af the playoffs move along, you should see better candidates come in.

Anonymous said...

The four candidates have nice resumes, but our problem is offense, not defense. Does the NL have any offensive coordinators with the chops to be a head coaches?

What do people think about bringing in Rob Ryan as Head Coach and a guy like Josh McDaniels as the OC? I'm a Denver Broncos fan and bringing in a 32 year old kid (my age now) as the Head Coach turned out to be a disaster, however, McD is a creative offensive mind and a smart guy who could help turn the Panthers' O around.

Y'all calling Jerry Richardson cheap must not have seen his press conference. He's willing to spend money to field a winning team. He had Hurney do the veteran purge because the young players weren't being played. Taking the vets away gave no option other than playing the young guys.

Richardson wants to win. He wants back to back winning seasons which is one of the main reasons Fox's contract wasn't renewed.

With all these rabid knuckleheaded non-fans spewing their worthless hate drivel its about time for Jerry to take his marbles and go back home 90 miles down I-77 south.

Yes, its nearing the time for the Big Cat to pull the plug on these losers and take up residence in Columbia SC playing at the 90k seat Brice Gamecock Stadium where there are real football fans who know the game and not these whiny fakers who know nothing and deserve nothing.

It is the Carolina Panthers anyway. The seats were packed for decades when the Cocks didnt win. They would welcome their Panthers home where they should have been all along. Jerry was too soft.

Also the sports writers are much more knowledgeable in Columbia. It aint even close.

Change the name of the team to the NFL Columbia SC Panthers too? Maybe. Enough is enough.

Columbia is TRUE football city anyway.

Is this REALLY the best that the Panthers can do??? I've stayed loyal to the team through all of the "It is what it is" B.S., but I'm becoming more and more convinced that JR simply wants to do things on the cheap and isn't serious about building a championship-caliber team. The mere fact that Hurney remains on board is a travesty, and Davidson (along with his singularly unimaginative play-calling) has long since burned out his welcome. JR, you have one more off-season to restore the faith in this fan, otherwise I'm sending all of my gear to Goodwill and writing the team off as being committed to mediocrity. You are on notice.

It is also well known just by watching the same offensive garbage for 9 years, After 2 O'coordinators.

Look at the same 1st down plays and 3rd and long draws etc., same passive playcalling it has been for years. 4th and inches punt, all signature plays of foxy.
Even Fowler himself has said it in a round about way(I think it was a crayon analogy).

Jerry said to F off. You a waste of time.

I watched the game between Ohio State and Arkansas. Both Mallet and Pryor, the quarterbacks for those teams really impressed me more than what I saw from Andrew Luck the night before. This was just one game, but Panther fans should be careful not to beleive the hype about this guy just yet.

Its never too late. Talk to JR.

JR did start the team in SC at Clemson the inaugural year of 1995 or didnt you know?

The Gov of SC in 1994 demanded the Panthers be in SC and would build the stadium below Carowinds convenient to NC. Bruton Smith wanted the team at the Charlotte Motor Speedway infield he was going to remodel.
Then there was Gaston group and of course Raleigh.

Charlotte was the obv choice for size and central location but idiot Tom Sorehead then went on his spree to piss everyone off to ditch Carolina and call it Charlotte Panthers. Typical ahole.

Clearly the same aholes who caused Shinn to want to go to SC and ultimately ran him off screwing up the NBA are the same ones now trying to run the show and run off Jerry Richardson.

They never learn. Business owners try to bend over backwards to help and get stabbed in the back.

Same ole crowd of losers whining again ...

You not dealing with Shinn now. JR wont put up with that BS.

Anonymous said...

Yeah we all know it started in SC while the stadium was being built in Charlotte....... What is your point!
That is why I said don't come chirping after 15 years of growth in this area and say lets move them here there and everywhere, but where this all came to a reality for all of us fans. Bitching or not.

Jerry, form the school of economics I offer you the following. If Jerrys current motivations are not all about money why did he bring up his investors returns and the financial arrangements with the players?

On the player split Jerry mentioned split percentages of TV revenue only. But that is not all of the revenue he and his fellow owners receive. All of the ticket sales, concession revenue and licensed products (jerseys, hats, accesory items etc.) go straight to the owners erasing a negative in rev. to expense and making them extremly wealthy.

That fact is validated by the fact that I heard that one of the highly respected financial magazines estimated that the Panthers francise was worth ove a Billion Dollars. So to take just one step further for the 15 partners to invest $80m franchise fee and for tens of thousands to pay for PSL's the owners in fifteen years have a return on investment of over 1200%. Outrageous in business terms.

What this is about I agree is a franchise in turmoil without a general manager/president to establish a clear operating strategy consistent with the best practices of successful NFL franchises not just at the bank but on the field. Whoever is making the draft choices over the past three years has not been knowledgeable with the attributes, skill and ability that it takes to be successful position by position in the NFL. This franchise had the nucleus of football talent to make a smooth and successful transition but the record defines the performance of those who make the ultimate decisions on what football players come or go to the franchise. There needs to be an accoutability that the general manager is held to and not just the coach. If not then that person and or team of scouts that report to him will continue to make the decisions that have lead us to Dwayne Jarrett, Armante Edwards, Jimmy Clausen and no reciever that could be enough of a threat to keep the defense honest in covering Steve Smith or the run game.

It will be an easy drive just 90 miles down a nice big wide I-77 to the Palmetto state capital of Columbia and a REAL live football city for the past 100 years or more.

Lots of scenery along the way and you can visit Riverbanks Zoo to see the lions tigers and bears along the scenic Congaree River.

Its real easy to get to the University of South Carolina football stadium too with open expanse of great parking and tailgating.

Catch Hootie and the Blowfish when they are back home playing or take a grande tour of beautiful downtown mall where you can walk anywhere. Tour Ft Jackson. Tour USC campus. Tour the capital blds.

You will love Columbia. Wheree the REAL Carolina plays football too.

Columbia (Carolina) Panthers? ... has a nice ring to it.

Call Ron at Prudential Realty University, in the book, if you need a real nice home at a great price anywhere in the met area of beautiful Colo SC.

6 of the coaches of this weekend's teams have backgrounds in offense. Two have backgrounds in defense. Of the four teams with a bye, all four came from defense.

Richardson is from Spartanburg SC. Its only fair South Carolina gets the team but hey its you whiners in NC bitching and crying so much about it all so he will only do what you NC whiny punks want and move south where he belongs and where people are real football fans and know the game.
Go get your own owner from your own state or city.
Jerry is only giving you what you want. You gonna whine about that too?

Anonymous said...

Typical NC screwballs. Damn if you do damn if you dont. U cant please them so dont even try.
Myrtle Beach Charleston & Hilton Head is ours too. Got a prob with that? Just go spend all yo money there so we can laugh all the way to the bank. What do you have? Half of Carowinds? lol

Dont worry. We will be taking OUR SC Panthers home soon so you wont have to keep whining.
